God....

A Dakar Yellow E92 M3 is what I was going to order on European Delivery in 2011 when the opportunity to get a Valencia Orange 1M jumped in front of me when I was configuring the M3 at the dealer...

Always liked dakar yellow M3s since I got my first Euro E36 M3 in dakar... Still miss it... the E46 M3 doesn't look as good as the E36 or E92 in this color.

Didn't see your car at Bimmerfest last weekeend, saw the E90 one but not yours. I was with my red Sport Evo E30 M3 along with some other vintage cars...

Maybe one day I'll buy a used one since I can't order one new anymore, maybe an F80 M4 ??, we'll see....

Great looking car, don't go over board with the mods....

Thanks for the compliments man. I agree with you Dakar looked great on the e36 as well, but for some reason not as good on the e46. Weird right?

You can see a few pics of my car in the newly consolidated MORR bimmerfest thread, if you didn't get to catch it at the show. Especially in the latter few pages.

The car has basically been in the same aesthetic form for about a year now. Its not going to change much aesthetically. There are really only two more mods I could do to this car anyway - wheels, and BBK. I don't think either of those would could take the car overboard as you put it. I prefer to keep the aesthetic mods simple and clean.

Had a photoshoot in Blackstar Canyon, CA using a technique called "color painting." The original photoshoot thread is HERE (was featured on the front page), but wanted to include the pics here as well since this is my photo-modification journal afterall.

Modification 25 - MRF Engineering X-Pipe

Background:

As many of you know I recently supercharged my car to an ESS VT2-625. Since then I’ve been on a bit of a quest to maximize my torque and power output. So when I had a chance to pick up the rare and mythical MRF Engineering X-Pipe, I jumped on it. It was one of three remaining MRF X-Pipes remaining in existence. Like everyone else who'se mounted it, my power gains were insane.

The results went far far beyond what I expected – 16.5 peak HP and 16.5 peak TQ over the Akra Evo. And massive delta’s throughout practically the entire RPM band. In some places I was seeing gains as big as 30 HP and 26 TQ over the Akra.

Results:

Here are Dynos of my car running the Akra X-Pipe vs. the MRF Engineering X-Pipe. These are all on 91 Octane.

STD

SAE

Discussion:

My car, equipped with the VT2-625, is now putting down 574 HP, and 376 TQ... on 91 Octane. That's a gain of 16.5 peak HP and 16.5 peak TQ over the Akra. But the peak numbers are not the full story. Interestingly, the MRF X-Pipe is creating substantial Torque and HP increases, over the Akra, throughout virtually the entire power band. As the graphs with the vertical line drawn at 6250 RPM show, there are places in the power band where the MRF X-Pipe is creating gains as high as 30 HP and 26 TQ (STD) over the Akra. In fact , the MRF X-Pipe is making ~30HP over the akra throughout a substantial portion of the power band. The gains are just insane.

Another interesting thing I found was that there was a consistent .2-.3 drop in boost, throughout all of my runs on the MRF Midpipe, when compared to runs on my Akra X-Pipe. Admittedely, .2-.3 isn’t a huge deal, but when it comes to boost, I’ll take anything I can get. The less stress on my engine, the better.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my results with people who have been following my build journal. The full thread, including more details and discussion, is posted in the Engine Modifications Section HERE.

The pull and acceleration on the car is now ferocious. Really, I'm just glad to have my hands on this mythical unicorn.

I just read through this entire thread. All I can say is WOW! I love the looks and performance is even better. Too many times looks take away from performance. Serious props :-).

Out of curiosity, with such a rare/beautiful color, and all the work you put into it; do plan on keeping this for a long time?

Not sure. I'd like to keep it, but I haven't ruled selling it out. It all depends I guess....
