Need some some advice. Rotten egg smell in car.
The last couple of days I have noticed the inside of car smells like rotten eggs while the engine is on. I notice the smell gets worse while stopped. What the heck is this terrible smell. Help!!!!

What gas station do you use, sounds like a catalytic converter. Low grade gas has sulfur emissions in it, upgrade your gas and it should fix the problem, if not then it can be costly to replace it.

Cats are usually warrantied for much longer than the general car warranty. I know on my Mazda and VW it's 100k miles. If it ends up being your cat chances are you're covered.

+1 to the low grade gas, or may be you have some rotten eggs under your seat.
try a bottle on good quality fuel system cleaner, such as Techron, it may help, worth a try for $7.00 |

Yep, Catalytic Converter. If gas change doesn't help then it might be damaged and in need of replacement. This could mean that your fuel/air mixture is too rich and this potentially damages the cats.

It's easy to check that. Just take apart your cowl to check the filter. Only a few bolts to unscrew. I think the problem is going to be with your cat though.

I did replace my air filter with a new factory air filter just a few days prior to this smell. I did it myself, could I of installed something wrong to make that smell? Everything was bolted back and harnessed in. Thank for all the input everyone.

I believe you have 2 cabin air filters on your vehicle they should be located on either side of the firewall. They are fairly easy to replace just a couple of screws holding the covers on.

Have you had any work done on the car or is it totally stock. I mean stereo etc too. I had this issue with my last BMW and turns out, the breather vents in the trunk. The installer decided to remove so it was sucking in the exhaust. Enough to really stink up the car!

New gas and treatment did the trick, thank everyone for all of your help. Interested in buying BMS powerbox, any feedback regarding the install and performance gain?

Check exhaust piping under your car.
You might have caught a plastic bag on it. If that's the case, it will take few weeks to completely burn it off. |

I would not recommend this. All these fuel additives do nothing to the cat. If anything they cause the issues. By cleaning your fuel line and injectors you are actually burning the crap out which in turn sticks to the platinum in the cat. As mentioned before your fuel to air ratio is off and you have unburned gas (possibly). That would also be the cause. Find a big ass hill gun it up the hill, if it's the cat then it will stink 10 times stronger. I had that on my volvo, took it for a trip in the mountains, smelled bad for a bit but then it cleaned it self out. I guess from all the driving up the hills and mountains it got super hot and burned it self off. |
