Smoking Tire Podcast - Steve DINAN

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=8tS99lrAmOA

This is a very interesting episode if you are a BMW enthusiast in general, but there is a lot about the S65. Starting at 1:10:30 there is discussion about the rod bearing issues (spoiler - he likes clevite bearings due to racing) with interesting tidbits of info I had not heard before. Also stuff about the stroker motors they are still building, S85's, how they strengthen the S65 for forced induction, and some other bits and pieces.

The whole episode is basically about BMW engines, but at 1:10 there is a lot of S65 stuff specifically. If you've got time it's interesting to listen to the whole thing.

His solution is probably effective but jeeze, involving.
Cool he's still such a fan of the E46. There wasn't much about the S65.
I like him and his videos and products. Matt Farah is better when he's behind a wheel.

Wait. That can't be right. Tons of guys on this forum have stated that there is no issue with the bearings on the S65. It's just shops trying to take your money. It's a waste of money to spend $2500 to get them replaced.

SD Autotech (former Dinan service depts) supposedly uses BE Bearings, but claim it's a customer spec for them. Not sure what that means....as the bearings are made by Clevite......so maybe a customer spec from Clevite?

If you have seen what rod bearings look like coming out of the car, you'd think otherwise.

I'm glad I did mine.

3/10 trolling

What is said on here is that the number of cars experiencing the problem is extremely low, but those that are affected are quite vocal about it.

No one dislikes Dinan products. Most dislike the PRICE of Dinan products.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Curious of who makes better products; in your opinion..

I’ve dealt with Dinan since 1996, never had an issue with parts fitting, tune or design. Everything was well engineered and EXACTLY as advertised...
