kbb fair purchase price is 5k higher than edmunds tmv?

I am considering a 11 aw e92 m3 with dct and 36k miles. kbb says the fair purchase price is 42.5k while edmunds tmv says dealer retail should be 37k..

yes KBB is more favor with dealer whereas edmunds is more with consumer. I usually take the average of both when buying the car.

hope that helps!

Thanks that was really helpful. Just to clarify do you use the average as your starting offer? Or you aim to negotiate for the average?

When I negotiate, I aim for edmunds and get it for avg between kbb and edmumds. It works with me that way to avoid paying over its value. You dont want to take big hit when selling the car later on.

Talked to a few sellers during the weekend and for some reason they seem extremely offended when I started my offer based on edmunds. I guess either they are delusional with kbb or edmunds don't price m3 correctly....
