hey Tom, I had similar issues too with my win10 laptop, I used an old laptop and all worked perfectly.

Over gradual use, the owners didn't even recognize the power (as well as mileage) was missing.

That being said, your SA or BMW Technician likely cannot ID the DME software version, just overwrite when prompted for an update. Performance software is simply icing on the cake afterwards.

You state you have a 2008 in your details, when was the last time your M3 was serviced? If you can PM me the last 7 of your VIN, I can check if there are any notes in your service history.
How do I determine what software my car has?

The video in the OP will show how to determine this. Also covered in the FAQ:
Quote:
Can E-Flash correctly identify my DME's current software version?
Yes! When a [Full program + calibration data only] read is being performed, the software version of the DME is embedded within the file name.

Let's use the following filename as an example, which was saved using the [Full program + calibration data only] option:

SiemensDMEMSS60_7846409_7846397_0569QT0Z220EEKUV0_ WBSWD93509PY00000.full.bmw.org

DMEMSS60 = BMW ECU Type
7846409 = BMW Hardware Number
7846397 = BMW Software Number
0569QT0Z220EEKUV0 = Hardware Reference Number
WBSWD93509PY00000 = VIN Number

The 0569QT0Z220EEKUV0 portion of the filename is what will determine your ECU Software version. Digits 9-12 show [220E] which correctly ID this ECU's software version. This would identify that this DME needs to be brought up to date, at ESS's discretion. ESS or EAS may ask for your full file number if other information is required during troubleshooting.

I have the cable and the tune on my car, bought it a few months back. (November)

Do i have the latest version? What if I'd like to add a pulley kit, do i need an updated version for that? Do you charge to re-flash if I already purchased this cable/tune from you?

I finally figured out the deal with my WIN10 machine. The Norton Anti-Virus was preventing the program from running and was actually deleting it, except for the desktop icon, after being loaded. I tagged it as a trusted file through Norton and all is good.

Current E-Flash version is linked in Post #2. Shouldn't have a need for new flash for UDPs.

I am removing my Challenge Sport (hfc) Xpipe due to Emission Test (illinois), and wondered about reflashing back to OEM software from the ESS tune? Do i just follow the same process with the ESS E Flash software, only using the stock file? Or is there more to it?

Thank you
Rae

Flash stock file and you will need to drive ~30-50mi in varying conditions in order to get O2s back into readiness mode.

Can this cable/software be used to flash DCT software back and forth?

I prefer a performance DCT tune at the track but OE on the street.

Tom, i have a VT2-625 and i am located in Germany and will be shipping my car soon. Is there a valet tune I can install to prevent the shipping company from abusing my car while in transit?

I noticed this post discussing software. I have an 07 M6, just replaced CATs, but check engine emissions light came back on after 3 days. Code reads CAT again. My mechanic says there is software he can buy to reprogram car computer to make emissions light go away. Can anyone comment on this?

Im not sure what you mean by "replaced CATS" but the primary cats are part of the headers and the only way to replace them is to replace the headers completely. The secondary catalytic converters have NOTHING to do with check engine lights or emissions codes. Only the PRIMARY cats in the headers are monitored for emissions purposes. Can you get rid of that light with a tune? yes. Will it fix your problem and or be good for your car? No. Aftermarket tunes that delete the SES for emissions codes are designed for catless systems. Running a catless tune on a car with factory cats can damage the catalytic converters and potentially clog the exhaust system leading to more problems.

It's my first time doing it with HFC Xpipe and ESS Tune installed so i really don't have any idea. Via tune i removed the CEL. Do you think i'll be able to pass the test without swapping the xpipe and reflashing the tune back to stock since i don't have CEL?

Thank you

Hey Tom,

Is this still an issue, or is simply a conservative stance to use race fuel? Happily flashed to ESS 91 tune bought via EAS, will be at Thunderhill West this upcoming weekend. I expect to simply drive with normal 91 octane fuel as usual.

Thanks in advance!

Would never use 91 on the track, add some octane booster or at least a couple of gallons of race fuel to bump up the points a bit.
