Here's my GT350 on track last week...1 session before my oil filter backed out and dumped oil on the track for half a mile. I had my break-in oil change done at the dealership because it was free, but either they didn't torque the filter down to spec (they said they did), or its a design problem (ford also changed the filter design to a cartridge style a few months after my car was built). My car seems to run fine, but it ran with low oil pressure as I was slowing the car down. I'm trying to get Ford to give me an extended warranty on the motor because of this mishap. Car is less than a year old and only has 5k miles on it.

Never had an E46 though there's still a chance in the future. I was pretty active here with my E92 though.

However, I don't like where this is going for Ford. Its not just the Mustang. Ford lost money on every Focus RS it sold in the US. A brand new appliance-level vehicle not failing is pretty much the bare minimum. Ford had me at hello with the and the GT350 and now here we are a few years later and they're 2000's GM-ing all over themselves. Guys I...I I think I'm a GM guy now.

Hypersensitivity to aftermarket tunes is one of the biggest (negative!) indicators of quality right there... remember when BMW became sensitive to 335 tunes? It was due to poor quality on the Conti fuel pumps and fuel injectors that were failing on stock cars.

They are sensitive on the new school F series M car tunes as well. You can extract so much more power out of a turbo car with just a tune that there is a much larger chance of things breaking due to it.

Wasn't in my E92 but I was in my F80 when a Coyote 5.0 GT wanted to play.

Me = 2017 M3 DCT w/Stage 1 flash, have no idea what mods "if any" the Mustang had.

Caught it on my dash cams. Mustang did the honking.

Well the Mustang GT PP2 did not fare well in Lightning Lap trials at VIR. Turns out they overheated after 3 laps or less due to lack of cooling systems (on the rear diff I believe was the main culprit).

It also failed law enforcement trials in Australia because it kept going into limp mode I’ve read.

The lap times of the Mustang GT with PP2 at VIR and Laguna Seca are impressive (on par with the M4 GTS). Yes, the laps aren't repeatable after multiple laps, but a stock E9x M3 had its own issues with the stock brakes and when driven pretty hard in high temps, would limp mode.

As far as the GT350 (speaking of the R version), the Magneride suspension is light years ahead of any M3 for sure stock and vs most coilover setups. The car actually feels lighter and more nimble than the M3, though I think the CF wheels have a lot to do with it, as many people on the Mustang forums have driven both and feel quite a bit of difference with the R. The R in the corners can keep up and in many cases exceed any smaller/lighter car out there, including the GT3, 458s, S2000s, GT4s on tight auto-x type technical tracks like Sonoma (capable of 1:45 lap time stock an extremely fast time for such a technical track). It is extremely easy to drive, nothing unsettles it and it loves being pushed hard, where the steering feel really livens up more as you load it through the corners. It makes sense that with the addition of the Magneride on the PP2, that the lap times improved so much.

Street car wise, the E9x M3 is better. The Magneride can be still be rough and as others mentioned, Mustang interior quality isn't great (but the tech is quite good/functional). M3 is much nicer car to be in daily. Also on the street, the M3 has much better ground clearance, has better steering feel, and is easier to navigate on narrower roads.

Overall I think Ford did a great job with the GTPP2 and for change, an American car has awesome looks. It's an unbelievable value and it makes sense why is world's best selling sports coupe.

These are all exciting cars to drive and the whole reason i started this thread is because i felt specifically the "new" 2018 mustang GT's are a great upgrade over previous years.... and i was interested to see what other people though of them if they had a chance to actually drive one. But hardly anyone has ( on this site ) as of yet. Oh well.


I bought a new 2018 GT Mustang with PP1 and 10-sp back in April, $7,000 below msrp light years ahead of 2016 i test drove.

I want the R... I'll wait until it's around 40k and add it to my e90 m3.... I've been drooling over those lately. The reviews of how raw they feel and drive reminds me of my recently sold lotus Elise (but v8 engine of course lol). So for me R (poor man's gt3) and next then in some time the real GT3 lol

For me the 10 sp is a game changer, the AI Shift Logic reads myi mind, no need to use paddles, rather concentrate steering like F1 driver on the tail of the dragon type roads i have here.
The trans becomes more aggressive the harder i drive, some late braking corners it banged 4 downshifts, lots of engine braking at 7000 rpm this will save brakes on a track like NCM.

By the end of the river run it was shifting as quick and hard like my m5 SMG

Take it out of sport mode and it will keep rpms at 2000 rpm and deliver 26 mpg
Life time is 21 mpg.
Yet it downshifts so quickly and smooth feels like a 100 lbft more torque than 2016 gt.
Throttle response makes 2016 feel like a 4cylinder

The trans in "D" mode does not feel busy at all ,one does not feel down shifts or upshifts, i suspect due to very accurate rev matching.

Car responds with immediate acceleration, never wasting time hunting for gears.

One can tell computing power in 2018 trancends my 2006 m5

I'm a DCT fan and new torque converters are also good but 10 speeds is just too many when you want to shift your own. I had a ZF8 in old M235i and it was a phenomenal transmission except even that was too many gears. Now if you want to drive in full auto that's different but that's no fun IMO.

I like the new Mustang, the GT350, recent Camaro SS 1LE, but I think the 7 speed DCT is the sweet spot.

Of all my cars the Mustang is the most fun not because i like auto trans, but because it just works. It suits my left foot trail braking better than any car i have tried, ic acheive at the limit cornering speeds with no loss of control while down shifting, , i have never had so much confidence in a car when driven at the limit

The narrow gaps in gears means shifts do not upset tire adhesion when at the limit driving There is no comparison to any BMW auto trans when in sport mode, closest would be SMG in s5
