Question on purchasing 09 M3 E93

Hi guys,

I'm trying to buy an 09 M3 convertible. None of my local dealers here in FL has one on the lot but I had my local dealer locate one on vehicle locator spec'd exactly the way I want. MSRP on it is $80,595.
My local dealer claims their cost is 6.5% off MSRP ($75,356) and the lowest I got them is 77k. However, invoice pricing on that car according to my research should be $74,150. So, in my opinion up to 75k would be a fair price for the car that I'd be willing to pay. Anyways, none of the other close by dealers that I contacted could even get below the 77k of my local dealer (one dealer actually hung up on me and said I should buy a cheaper car...).
Problem is that I can't order from a dealer in another state because I'd like to trade my 05 325Ci in.
So, what do you think is a reasonable price for a "located" vehicle in the current market and any advice on how to better approach this situation?

Thanks!

I know its very different in the USA for some reason, but I purchased one of the first M3 Convertibles in Toronto (Early June -2008). And I was able to get a $4000 discount off MSRP.
This was before the economy went to shit (publically speaking) and at a time when the M3 itself was rather new to everyone!

If $77K is the best you can do in that area and you want to trade the car in, well it sounds like you're going to have to sacrifice to get the exact car you want. You could always buy one on the lot, but in your case, they don't have the exact specs. You could sell your car privately and then either order a car or buy one from out of state. If you don't want to do that, and the option is the dealership is willing to give it to you at $77.... well the decision is really up to you. Is having the exact car that you want worth $2K? If not, walk. If so, sign on the dotted line.

That's 1200$ over invoice, not bad for a located auto. It's much easier for a dealer to be more aggresive with an ordered auto since it will not sit on their lot, and they dont have to purchase it from another dealer.

Hi Guys,

I appreciate your responses.
According to my math that's $2850 over invoice, not sure where you get the $1200 from?
Anyways, the question that I was trying to ask is what are others paying and what is a fair price over invoice for a located car in the current market. I don't wanna walk out of a deal feeling f'ed, reading all those threads here how guys only pay 500 over or at invoice and I pay 3k over inv.

Thanks,

tjf

I paid $200 over invoice. But I was willing to pay $2000 over invoice before I started negotiating. That's the problem w/ being human... we all want to keep up w/ the Jones'. This recession would be non-existent if we didn't "monkey see, monkey do". Just buy the car man... seriously. Why does it matter if someone got a better deal? The point is, you're not able to (hopefully you are) under your circumstances so you shouldn't compare the bottom line w/ others out there.

I just purchased mine and I paid $3,000 over invoice. Couldn't get better with other dealer. One actually told me he wouldn't move from MSRP price So 77k seems pretty good to me.

Recommend you check with Adrian Avila, a forum sponsor, in Atlanta at adriansbmw@gmail.com. He may be able to assist with the trade. Or try selling the 325i to CarMax for cash, then use Adrian and buy via ED and get 7% off US Invoice plus whatever markup you can negotiate

I've been offered $8k off invoice without even trying on an '08. I was interested in an '09 and the dealer was trying to sell his older car.

Invoice is pretty easy here in the Bay Area... I've heard of $500 below invoice.
