But I know there's only one I'd pass on to my son.
Well done sir. Best comment/analogy here. I have a few automatics and received an Apple Watch as a gift a little over 2 years ago, hasn't seen the light of day in at least 6 months.

I agree this is a good way to phrase it.

It's still a subjective and emotional decision, and for those who appreciate a car like the E90 M for what it is, and the times that it was built will forever love it. Technology changes and improves as time moves on, but there will be value in doing it the old school way.

I think run of the mill ICE cars will be off the road by 2045 for the most part but enthusiast cars that stand out as special will always have a spot in people's garages.

If you really enjoy the Tesla, I would sell the E93 M3

The Tesla builds speed insanely quickly. Comparing driving feel and connectedness to the road - M3 by miles. You can appreciate both for in different scenarios.

It's an excellent do-it-all vehicle without being enormous. Like it a lot for a family of 4 + good sized dog. It doesn't hurt that it's quick enough and handles well enough to F off from just about any situation relatively quickly if needed, but that's not why we got it. I wanted an EV and we wanted a good family hauler that can occasionally do multiple-kid carpools, and that's a class of one right now. The fact that it's also basically just a slightly over-stuffed e-class sportwagon in character is a bonus, but it's a nice bonus. Just a few inches longer than our E63, obviously a lot taller. We only really gave it a look because we were thinking of getting a Land Cruiser, which costs exactly the same money, and while I loved the *idea* of the land cruiser, it drives exactly like the softer, fancier, shorter Tundra that it is. No car on stilts feeling in this thing, it's nailed down compared to everything else with a 3rd row.

AP is good. I test-drove a few differed FSD cars and I'm convinced FSD is a pyramid scheme they're using to pay for their actual Level3 hardware development with lidar/radar/optical/ultrasonic sensor fusion being the only really feasible all-weather solution, but...yeah, no thanks, I'll keep my money, I don't need a drunk, jumpy electronic teenager to drive me to work and scare the family on the weekends.

Also...the fanboys. LOL. IT's a dang cult.

Yea. I'm half convinced that I just bought mine so that when people ask if I track it, because it's so awesome, I can say hell no it's a terrible track/driver's car. Also, I had to shut my brother up with all of his tesla talk. And I use autopilot on long highway drives and it's f'ing awesome for that.

2015 Tesla P85D  [0.00]
Ive had a tesla along side a performance car in the garage since 2016.

Back then i had a modded n54 e93 with RB turbos that I tracked and daily commuted. I then added a S60 (modelS l) for hov lane traffic hack. The last year i owned the e93 i put 8k miles and $8,000 in maint.
Ended up selling it with the thought of selling S60+e93 and upgrade to a p85d 700hp, prem sound, and autopilot. I did.

I went ONE year before getting the car bug itch again.

A steal came up on a 6mt c7z. Then sold that after a year.

Got the itch again, whipple orange raptor, sold that, itch again Audi r8 v10, sold the p85d during covid bc didnt commute, added a modded wild RS3 from cars n bids matching colors r8 rs3.
Sold rs3 went back to a cheapo TM3.
Sold the r8.

Now looking for an e9x M3 V8 individual.

“California camry” “scottsdale civic” tesla just doesnt satisfy the sports car cravings.

So I'll give you an update from the dark side.

I sold my 2011 M3 6MT 3 years ago and bought a 2012 Performance model S P90.

I will personally say Tesla quality cannot be compared in any way to my M3 with the M3 quality being on top of the heap by a mile (and my Model S is one of the nice early hand built models with carbon fiber everywhere).

I miss my M3 every single day. That being said, I'll never go back to a gas car. Ever. Not nearly a fun as the M3, but just so much more liveable. Plus, my fuel bill went from over $350 per month to just $60. I have a separate meter in my shop so very easy to track.

Performance wise, I sold an underpowered canyon carver and bought a dragster of epic proportions.

So my point? M3 all the way to check the vroom vroom box, but not a realistic daily in comparison.

Funny reading some of the early comments. Where are all the listings for 30k mile E9x in the low teens lol. I bought my E92 at 18k miles this past fall and loving every minute of daily driving it. Op in all seriousness I hope you're enjoying the Tesla but I would never want to live with an electric for myself

Electric family pod has been great, it's a good appliance even though it has its oddities. Not sure I'd want it if I didn't have the M3 though.

Also my initial 2021 take on FSD aged well ha
