I should have a better idea tomorrow morning of what went wrong. Sadly, I think I’ll be joining the club. Oil on the floor and out the exhaust, my engine did not cut out though, was able to shut her down for tow to the shop.

Thank you! Crazy how attached you get to these things and the muscle memory you build that doesn’t transfer over to other platforms while driving.

Just read your post regarding the cylinder no 2 making a run for it .

If you don't mind me asking - Miles and type of usage?

What are your future plans? This sucks though. Turning a BRILLIANT car into a paperweight. Urghhhhh.

He also had the bearings replaced 25K miles ago when he put on the supercharger. Issues like this were a big reason why I sold my M3 2 months ago

I bought with 25k from previous owner. Daily driven, haven’t tracked ever, have put about 25k on it since bearing and SC. Barley over 50k miles when disaster struck.

This really sucks.
Would you mind telling us which bearings were installed upon the change 25k before?

And Future plans are to by more Kleenex until I run out of tears... I want to keep this car or another E9X. We’ll see though, may be tough to get over the feeling that my engine could blow up anytime i downshift.

Main bearings lead to cylinders shooting out as well?

Apologies but I haven't read many threads about mains going so don't know how it actually happens.

I think the obvious solution for people with the S65 is to install a device that makes the engine burst in fire of the bearings fail. This way your insurance would get screwed by BMW, not you. Really sorry this has to happen to you, I can only imagine how shitty the situation is for you.

Do you know which VAC bearings..they offer 2 sets. Standard clearance with coating and reduced clearance with coating.

Safe to say that if it's VAC, it's probably shit.

Recently the last couple of weeks if I let the car sit for a day or two, the first start sounds horrible for the first 2 or so seconds I can hear all kinds of clacking and banging, possibly just noisy lifters but its like chucking ice down a garbage disposal type of sound. This isn't normal is it? Once it warms up it's nice and smooth on the start. But a cold start after sitting for a day is grinding and then a big slap which I think is the timing chain guide.
I'm still considering having rod bearings and bolts changed out. 57K miles roughly on an 09 daily driver. I'll see if I can get around to making a video on the weekend after it sits a while so I can record the grinding noise.
I regularly let mine sit for a week or two at a time between driving it and it doesn't sound any different after a couple weeks than it does after enough hours for it to fully cool back down again.

Going to swap a low mileage donor in. Potentially a new engine, haven't fully made a decision yet. I can't get rid of this car... hopefully I have her back on the road in a few weeks.
