I'm surprised you took out a GT3RS with a Weissach package during your last event. Obviously you're an extremely capable driver and the other must have sucked big time. Pound for pound, the 2 cars are not even in the same universe!
It would have been fascinating if you could have swapped cars to see how badly you take yourself out in terms of lap times...
At the DE level, there’s not a ton of corellation between car speed and lap times— very much driver based.
But what about super pro race speed level? What's like then?

I have not. The car is parked with a car cover on it.

I will post the results when I have it dismounted

Right now the focus is on collecting banana peels for the new build!

Cheers

There might be a good reason that many S65s that were built for race are all catless also.

No, but we're getting closer. Hopefully by December.

I went and washed the car the other day so it's clean under its cover. Can't wait for it to be running again!

I'm still super curious how the cam and headers did.

Were the cams stock lift and longer duration? Did you replace the springs at the same time? A ramp that's too fast can float or bounce valves leading to contact. I understand that the timing doesn't coincide with the initial issues, but it does more so with the "boom".

I picture cams and headers somewhere in my future, even though I'm sore from all the wrestling of the new Akra X-pipe that your issues inspired me to install. Heads/Cams/Headers were always in my old signatures on other car boards

I got 284 cams, the standard ones people on the forum use. The springs were replaced for the 'BE spec' ones

When it's torn down we'll see for sure what killed it. I plan to reuse the head.

Sorry for causing you to get extra mods. On the plus side you can blame me for it. To the wife: 'sorry honey SYT made me do it. I had no choice!' LOL

An interesting thing about cams: I got 284s because per the internet those are the biggest you can use on an S65 and maintain VANOS.
Well, my brother got in touch with Schrick in Germany and confirmed what I suspected: The 292 cams were designed for use with VANOS and only require additional supporting mods... aka Schrick springs and retainers.
I haven't pulled the trigger on the 292s but I feel very, very tempted

Any idea on the bottom end loss or top end gain for either 284 or 292?

I never got a print out (or the file) of the results before it blew but I did get a pic. So I can't establish top/bottom end hp deltas

In the alekshop stroker build they got +24hp from like 5k on with the 284 cam

I think all the bottom end loss will eventually be recovered through tuning. On the e46 at least that's what happened

I'm being partially facetious- its no 2-cycle bike- but it doesn't feel like we have low or midrange to lose in the first place.

Curious about your main bearings after rod shell replacement with extended clearance. Need to worry about something so turn came to main oil pressure...😎

I'm not worried about that at all.

I don't think the tolerance stack up is what killed the engine, I think following two idiot mechanics who said not to worry and that I should run the car anyway is what blew it

Curious to see the BE bearings if you have had a chance to take them out yet

the engine is still sitting in the car waiting to be disassembled. Hopefully in Q2 I will be up and running again

I plan on disassembling the engine to retrieve the 284 cams and I want to see if the block can be salvaged. I will definitely return here and post the results

I thought so too SYT. Believe Scrippy is a guy who takes care of his engine which means the shells wear even whith 0.0025 inch "industri standard" oil clearance.

Or, also the BE shells came out a tad tighter that expected. Been discussing this a bit back and forth with Robert over M3Cutters.
