Mirrors are possessed...need help

Ive checked the search and found a ton of "solutions", however, none of them worked for me. My '11 M has lost her mind, or at least her mirrors have. When I get in the car for over a week now, both mirrors fold forward. Past the spot where they're supposed to stop and stay. I tried all the trick to no avail.
I have managed to get that click spot aligned on the passenger side, so now when I unlock the car, the passenger side mirror stays put, but the drivers side is still crazy as hell. Even when I click the button to fold them in, it seems they either go all the way, or all the way out....

I was able to fix the passenger side by unlocking my car, and when it started to roll forward, I grabbed it and held it almost where I would want the spot to stop at and it clicked there and seemed to hold. The drivers is close, but not perfect..

Second question is, once I hopefully align them. How do i prevent it from happening again. i used to always fold my mirrors in, and now I can't cause they just start to go all the way forward and we start the process all over again. Do I need new motors for these mirrors? Is it a specific part? Can I take the mirror housing apart and fix it myself?
At my wits end with this...... its making me pretty pissed at my car lately.

When my FRM failed my mirrors were in the up position. I pulled them down to the normal position by hand after moving my nonfunctional switch to the down position. When I plugged in my repaired FRM the mirrors moved beyond the normal position all the way forward because they were out of sync with my switch. I moved them back to the normal position by hand. I was surprised how easy the mirrors broke away by hand.

Sounds like your mirrors are out of sync. Good luck.

I had odd issues with my mirrors moving on their own, as well as the windows rolling up and then acting like they hit an obstacle and would roll back down. After bringing the i-level up to date in my car (it was on its original 2012 software), these oddities went away.

Enlighten me.... how did you do that? I'm a 2011. I have no other issues, but is it still possible it is that?

I had this same issue on a prior 328. I know there is a reset procedure for the stops to learn their home position but they also fail which requires a whole new assembly. What I ended up doing was putting them back in their normal position and undoing the cover and disconnecting the two wires that power the mirror fold portion only. Obviously your mirror fold won't work but I never used it, so I didn't care. You might be able to find more information on the 3 series forum about this..

I did try the reset. I actually tried a few different ones. So far I've only been able to align one, the passenger. I'm close on the drivers side, but I can't seem to quite get it. It is seriously pissing me off. I know it's silly, but I hate when there is an issue with my car, no matter what it is. You know?

If resetting doesnt help you have to clean the sensors behind the mirror in the housing or worst case is you need to replace the whole mirror assembly. Someone else posted this but I cant find it anymore but this is a known issue.

Here is the link. Was a known issue for the 2008 just assumed they fixed this in later models so surprised (or not!!) your '11 has the issue too. Or maybe its something completely different but just in case you want to try it. I did it on mine a few years back. Its starting to do it again and your post reminded me to look for it again and take care of my own mirrors.

The dealer can do it, or find somebody with an ICOM unit to do it for you. Updating my i-level from the base 2012 version to the current version took 3-4 hours or so.

close as in normal operation but just a strange angle? I thought one of the sides was slightly off compared to the other as standard. You may have fixed it already and only notice it now.

No, it's not fixed. And I was at the dealer today cause I needed a door actuator cause my lock broke(when it rains it pours). I showed the SA the phantom mirror and how once I lock the car, and it sleeps, then I unlock it, the mirror folds forward (drivers only). He said it was the strangest thing he's ever seen. That alarmed in itself since he's a SA, and I kept thinking to myself "this can't be the first time he's seen this crap"......
he asked me if my car was ever coded. It wasn't, ever. It is SO weird, but I may have hubby take the mirror off and do that trick with the drill and the WD40 isn't the hole, which hopefully will reset the spring.... I guess it's worth a shot at this point.

Did they charge you for that? Was it just going in and updating software? That will likely flash my tune out too.
