Hey Mike you said the GP Thunder 5800k would be dimmer during the day. Why would this be?

I've just noticed something...

- I noticed that WeissLicht Angel Eye Upgrade is missing from this list and not many ppl have this product.

- Correct me if i'm wrong, its H8 bulbs with 35watts?

If so, I read that everyone was waiting for PIAA to make them. So I went to their website and found this!

http://www.shopatron.com/products/pr...PIA18235/353.0

Has anyone tried out the PIAA H8 bulbs yet?! $76.99USD I would like to know how this turns out. My car is still being shipped so I can't try them out myself. Anyone out there have this installed yet?

Just installed the 7500k GP H8s - they're ok.

I feel the stock angel eyes are brighter and have better light distribution in the outer ring.

They do dim a bit and become yellow when the xenon's are on... I'll try them for a few days. I think they need to be a bit brighter!

$80 for the PIAA - they're a solid company with a great track record, I don't know if they're lights are better than the GP H8s - but they sure as hell better be for that pricee.

Should I have tried the 5800K GP Thunders? or is AiB/LUX (which I don't think work on 2011s) the solution?

5800K GP's appear to be newer, people are saying dimmer???

Wondering why the PIAA's would be "that much better" than the $20 GP Thunders?

They're both 35W bulbs, maybe PIAA uses better materials, but in essence, why would they be brighter than the GPs?

The box seems to show a 4150K temperature and the bulb type is: H8 12v 35watt => 70 watt

Thought 35W was our limit on these cars?

Why would they be better???

^^^^ Amazon has them for $60 btw

http://www.amazon.com/PIAA-18235-Xtr.../dp/B002IBRI9K

I'll take one for the team and post pics, should I order them?

Want to make sure they wont short the car being "35 => 70 w" but I'm assuming that's just the voltage range that they work in.

Gp Thunders and MTEC's both have no issues or error codes, where did you hear that from

I am referring to dimming w/ xenons, not error codes. Sorry for the confusion.

+1.

Exactly my sentiments after lots of scraped knuckles. However for $20 or so, they're fine - I simply cannot bring myself to pay hundreds of $ for 2 bulbs.

So here is my summary as of date of all the things I have read (I still have on stock).

OSS
It cost $525 + tax. It seems that people say that this is the true way to go since there isn't any problems with them (is it because not a lot of people have them due to the price to really say there are issues with them?). But the process is unique, you send in your headlights and they install the OSS and send you back your headlights OR if you have very new headlights, take some pictures of them and send it to them to qualify for a trade. You need to put down a security deposit, they send you the OSS head lights, and you send back your stock as a trade, etc.

PG Thunders
It cost $20. It's just a bulb replacement. You get white light instead of yellow. People do say that these bulbs dim. A lot of people that go these are unsatisfied with the brightness. Some like it because they didn't want to do too much to the car and go through all problems with other units.

Lux
I don't know much about these except people loved them and they got recalled. Now, its uncertain whether they are fixed? And if they work on 2011. Cost ?? From my point of view of the pictures I have seen, they look very similar to AiB (maybe brighter?).

AiB
It cost $299 + tax. I've read a lot on the forum that people have issues with these. I was told the V3 of AiB doesn't have any more issues?? Though if there are issues, eas has been on top of it to help fix/replace any bad units for their customers (it just suck for people that doesn't live close to socal since you'll be waiting in the mail for them). Eas also do free local installs for forum members. Some people are unsatisfied with its brightness. Though in pictures, they look uniformly aligned for perfect light distribution (between inner to outer rings).

HID
It cost $170 (shipped). There are no cutting, drilling, damages, etc. to your M3 (there are DIY videos that does cut a piece of the headlight, but that's not for the M3). Alex @ Alpine does free installs (if you're close by he'll come out to your work and install them for you??). These are very bright. Of all the people that got them, I haven't heard any that complained or want to return theirs. Some say from looking at the pictures that the inner ring bleeds to the outer ring and that they might get hot.

I started off wanting OSS but they're not local and it's a bit expensive. Then I wanted AiB since they look great from the pictures. But then price and I'll hate to be troubled with issues if there are going to be issues (eas not open on the weekend ). Then HID, then back to AiB and now back to HID.

All bulbs in the OEM configuration dim when you put the headlights on. This is not some unique problem to the GP Thunder bulbs. Also, this is the exact problem the Camaross kit addresses. This all has been covered but it is important to get the details right when you want to re-summarize .

Ordered the PIAA, let's see how they look when I get them Tuesday.

I'll take some pictures of the GP Thunders and PIAA lights to compare.

Thank you! There's probably quite a few people who would like to see a comparison. I'm looking forward to your pics!

They're here, priority overnight style!

Too busy tonight to install them and take comparison photos, I'll do this tomorrow.

Will shoot the GP Thunders and the PIAA's from multiple angles with the same camera settings under the same lighting conditions.

I wonder what the long term effects would be with sticking HIDs in the actual angel eye housing. It puts out more heat than regular bulbs so the long term effect of the chrome has to peel soon or later from the heat of the HID bulb. No vendor can say there isn't any bc the car hasn't been out there long enough to do long term testing and no vendor can say, we did our research...since when? The car came out in 08, its not like they did research before it came out.

I have seen people stick HIDs in the halogen headlights, blind everyone and after 5-6 years, you see the chrome in the headlight housing burn away from the hid bulb.
