Rod Bearings Vancouver

Hi everyone,

Has anyone had rod bearings replaced in Vancouver? I called CG Motorsports and they won't do it.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Give RG Racing Greed a call, ask for Tommy (owner) or Lowell. I know Lowell have done a couple of m3 bearing jobs.

Haven't gotten a hold of RG yet.

Nixon won't do it either.

Spoke to RG. They did one a couple of years ago. They will do the job.

Any idea why BMW specialty shops like CG and Nixon won't touch it? Curious what they had to say about it.

My guess is they don't believe there is a rod bearing issue so they don't want to take the risk on it, ie. they'll be on the hook if anything happens to the motor after they worked on it.

$100/hr is pretty cheap. It's a pretty simple job if you get someone who is a decent technician especially with the DIY's out there. We did my rod bearings in 6 hours.

That's pretty fast!

RG did confirm they've done 3 other E9X M3s in the past.

The person who did mine was his second RB job. His first one was done in 8 hrs including clean up afterwards. He's a licensed technician at a dealership here (not BMW) and he says it's pretty straight forward. We also did my engine mounts, air filter and transmission fluid at the same time.

If you can get someone to do it at $100/hr, I would say that's a good deal.

How were the oem bearings on your car when you changed them?

I didn't think they looked too bad but they did have abnormal wear. I knew I would get my rod bearings changed right when I got the car for my own piece of mind and because I knew someone who would do it for me. Have a look at my old bearings.

I am contemplating driving to California to get Malek to do my bearings. He uses the extra clearance VAC bearings with a special bolt as well.
