It was on 265/35-18 Yokohamas. We discussed it several times in this thread - asterisk can mean the car competed on tires different from the tires they registered with.

I'll post pictures later, but I'm running 265s on the back of my car, and they're down to the wear bars after five driver-events (four events, one with two people in the car).

Not immediately obviously faster than the 275 Bridgestones they replaced, but I didn't compare them back-to-back. Speaking of which, Tire Rack says the 265 Yokohamas are as wide as the 275 Bridgestones, but they're definitely not.

For anyone interested, I have a Schroth Quick Fit Pro 4 point harness for the driver's side which was originally made for the Mini but also works for the E90/92 as well. This was before they developed the same model for the M3. Mine has black straps with black and yellow pads. These are designed to be DOT compliant (ie. you/EMS personel push one button and you are released). It latches into the seat belt receiver in the rear seat and the child safety seat support. A link is included below. It sells new for $400. $225 shipped and it is yours. Here is the link https://www.schrothracing.com/products/quickfit

New member here. I found this thread searching for FS-M3 content. I won my region's championship this year with my E46 M3 coupe (TRSCCA), but my wife will be having our baby in a month's time. I'm thinking about upgrading to an E90 sedan for the next season (more competitive, back doors, more modern). Just wanted to say this thread has been extremely helpful. I'm glad to see M3post is about as active for E9X as m3forum is for the E46 crowd. I'd love to meet some of the TVR and ETN guys at an event one day.

Currently comparing the merits of an 08 slicktop DCT with all maintenance done (including bearings), versus an 11.5 ZCP slicktop manual with all maintenance done except bearings.

With the ZCP you'll get the extra 1/2" of wheel width front and rear and the lower springs. Also note that a 2011 ZCP slicktop 6MT is the rarest example of the E90 M3 there is...at least here in the US.

Meaning it'll probably hold value a little better I take it. I should also factor that into account. The premium at current prices isn't enough to deter me either.

Bringing this question up from the dead out of curiosity...
I searched the thread and the answers are vague. It's a resounding "No" mostly but looking for hard evidence. How many people actually tried or do run DCT's at Pro's, and how bad is it really? If anyone can point me towards some event results or even people who own DCT cars currently in the class I would like to investigate...
My car is a DCT and trying to debate if its worth-it or not to run it next year in any Pro's, the closest national event to me next year is also a Pro so trying to decide if I should make plans to go to not.
I have also considered doing more extensive testing of the "poor-mans" launch and launch control to see if any consistency can be had with it. TIA

Not trying to be snarky, but I'm not sure what kind of hard evidence you can expect beyond what's been discussed in this thread, and your own experience. If you've owned the car for a bit, then you know how it launches. If you could live with that behavior at Pros, then go for it. Personally, the lag and inconsistency would drive me nuts.

It sucks, but I also haven’t tried the actual launch control at all yet either at this point it’s an STU build so I have to decide how I feel about it especially in Ladies stuff

The launch control creeps forward, so it’s not usable at pros.

Timing the launch is really difficult. I got down into the .6xx range at crows last year by Sunday morning, but I generally can consistently run .5xx with a manual car.

You have two choices launching: roll into it but don’t hit the downshift switch and crawl off the line slowly, or snap it all the way open, hit the downshift switch, then pedal it to manage wheelspin. Both are not ideal.

All that being said - I would run another pro in my car. I’m hoping that with Hoosiers I can hit the downshift switch and it will actually go somewhere instead of just spinning the tires.

Yeah, a manual is way better... But I've got what I've got without buying another car Lol
The crawl off the line thing is the best I have figured I can do. Its just so inconsistent. So maybe I'll stick to it and practice more. Was hoping actually using the Launch Control would be better but sounds like no. Saw your results at Crows, but figured it was a combo of "close-enough" and good driving everywhere else to makeup for it so was hoping for another data point but it may not exist
I bet the Hoosiers will stick, the 1/4 & 1/2 mile guys say the car sticks on R888R's

Does launch control attempt to mimic a really good driver? By that I mean does it use enough engagement to accomplish that first good weight transfer to the rear before it really adds full engagement and throttle? Does it manage throttle to prevent excessive wheelspin? I'm so used to driving a manual and launching with that feel for weight transfer vs clutch engagement vs throttle vs just enough but not too much tire spin, that I'm just wondering how well it works compared to a really good 6MT driver.

Sorry for the further aside, but why does it creep forward? (i.e. I guess they all do that) Can you hold it with the handbrake?

Either it doesn't, or it does such a bad job at it that it effectively doesn't. Check out the video here, for example: https://www.m3post.com/forums/showth...5#post24983485.

It works as well as a teenager who just bought a Mustang with 0% down leaving the parking lot at Cars and Coffee after shotgunning two cans of Monster Energy, with a girl he wants to impress in the passenger seat.

I don't know if anyone other than BMW can definitively say why, but my guess is that it's a clutch-preservation measure. There's a video in the post after the one I linked above.

I don't think using the handbrake would work, but it's worth a shot.

This is all moot, though. Kelse92, you're in STU. I'm not super familiar with the ST rules, but I believe you're allowed to use aftermarket launch control (with some restrictions), rather than being forced to stick with the essentially useless stock program. Might be worth looking into that option.

Hmmmmm I may have to look into this some... thanks!

LC sucks with the DCT. You cannot hold the ebrake, the car knows what you're doing. You cannot use the foot brake either. When you use LC, all it does is dump the "clutch", there's no feathering of the throttle like a PDK will do.

Need new tires for next year, anyone try the Yoko 052 in 265/35-18 & 295/30-18 on 18x9 &10 wheels? Currently on 265/285 re71, no complaints other than getting peakier and pushier as they wear out. How do the Yokos compare? Thanks

FS nats was won on 265 yokes - unless you desperately want a wider rear tire I’d stick with that, though I’m sure the wider rear could be made to work fine

Haven't tried the combo myself, but:

Came away wondering what I could do to utilize the rear grip and opted to sell the fronts and get Bridgestone RE71R 285/30-18's. Worked like a charm except driver wasn't up to snuff at the SCCA Nat's. Sold the car, sold the wheels and tires and on to something else. Word of advice is these tires run really wide. If you can get the 295's up front and run that square, that's the ticket.
