Refinish or paint it black (220Ms)

So i needed to replace my rear tires and i went to a local wheel shop (USA Wheels) to swap them out. After i got the car back i noticed long scratches along the outside of the rim from the machine. So i went back to the owner and showed him the damage. Both rims are scratch through the clear coat about 6 inches long. He said that he can refinish them for free. I was thinking of painting them black eventually but im not 100%. I know some people dont like black 220s but i feel like OEM color on these rims will be hard to match and id rather have them match. Since only the rears would be refinished im afraid that the rears will be a different color from the fronts. So what do you guys think: Refinish or paint them black?

Mine were black when i bought the car and i think they look great. The only thing I would consider swapping them out for is something in gold for a little contrast (car is black) so I would say paint em black!

I'm in the refinish camp. However, I would want to vet who is doing the work.

These guys aren't local to you and not sure if you can do a mail order option, but these guys are known to do flawless OE-like refinishing including multiple coats and color matching.

I'd refinish. If he can't do a good job, then have him paint it black.

He would most likely be paying someone to refinish the wheels...Give him an option that benefits both of you, tell him you are a member of a forum and can get cheap new wheels or get a check for that value and put that towards aftermarket rims!...

I always try to use negative things, accidents, potholes, mechanical failures to benefit me in some way...

That could look cool with black rims and maybe gold lugs? and mine is alpine white and i love white/black contrast.

I have to veto the black 220M on a white car. Unless you're going with the stormtrooper look, a-la- 2009

Well there in the shop now. I decided to refinish them but if they dont come out good than im probably going to tell him to paint them black to match. Ill post pics of the refinished rims so you guys can see and thanks for all your opinions. I guess you either love black 220's or ya hate em!

Black wheels are so played out/cheap-looking.

Whatever you do, don't listen to the guy who would put gold wheels on his car.

You need a combination of refinish and black paint ...

Update: got both of them refinished. I was a little annoyed at the fact he changed the M sticker in the rims and lost one of my valve covers. BUT with out even moving i notice that the clear coat is cracking on BOTH rims. Its been 3 week, i was suppose to go last week to fix them again but no time. So im dropping it off next week and hopefully ill be done w this. ill post pictures of the refinished rims and the cracking later.
