I'm not even going to respond to that in someone else's SC thread. It's 2009 all over again when there were no rules in the forums. I take full responsibility for this thread jack.

I am also entertaining buying ESS 650 kit. After reading this thread I am still pretty torn between the facts of the amount engine wear long term.
I have read and heard how great the reliability and quality is with the ESS kit that is not the issue. Having that extra power is always going to put a smile on my face, but not at the cost of ruining the engine. I understand that with a supercharger you are making more power at lower rpm. Most blown engines happen at higher rpms, but again I am assuming there is added stress to a motor not designed for boost. This is what I have read from other threads. I replaced my rod bearings already for piece of mind. N/A or S/C?😂 Last edited by E92///; 04-01-2018 at 08:15 PM.. |

Quick update if anyone is interested. Install was done about five weeks ago. Had some problems with flashing the software and ESS wasn't the most helpful initially since I hadn't purchased the kit new. In the end they did alright. This is a completely different car. Dynoed (sp?) on a 75 degree day at 563 rewhip and 427 rwtrq. With traction control off the rear end will come around very quickly when you're even 3/4 throttle. Unbelievably fast. Would I have paid $9500 for it new? Maybe after driving it 800+ miles. For the guys that said it will cause too much stress on the motor, I ran 18 lbs of boost on a n54 for 136k miles with no issues. I did replace the turbos with oem but most n54 owners running at stock boost have to also. How is 8 lbs on this set up different? I'm almost certain that the ESS kit, unlike AA's kit, retains the stock pulley position. At least it appeared to when I looked mid install. Bilstein B6s and Dinan springs next.

I agree, and this is my concern with any S65 that has been boosted.

The n54 is not a low compression motor. In fact it's a lot higher than many previous cars before then that were boosted from the factory. I will add that I did beat on my previous m3 for 55k miles in a 2 years with 30k of that being supercharged until I sold it to move on to a f80 m3 at 101k on a 2009. I did quite a few track events to included 2 half mile events in ga which I drove to and even an Ocala event. the s65 is quite the shout motor. It is also a Short stroke motor which is why is has such a low tq production. TQ is what breaks things not HP. I think he will be fine as slong as he takes care of the car.
