Anyone have experience auto crossing on all seasons? This would only be for a couple events. Apparently my tires or tire/ wheel combo for f street won't be available until after my regions second event.

The tires in question are Michelin as3( my winter set).

Will they be totally trashed after 8 runs?

Well, it's here....the BFG Rival-S. Apparently "officially" announced last week. It doesn't replace the Rival, apparently, but is an additional model which is interesting. TW200 still. Does this mean that there are some conditions for autox where the original Rival is still better? I doubt it. Perhaps for track use it would last longer hence they kept the original compound/design on the market for now?

I'd jump all over the new guy if it were me, the regular rivals already seem to wear like iron and better wet performance would be a big deal since they kindof suck compared to the competitors

Am I the only one who's a fan of the Yok's? I've had like 4 sets now, including the R's, that all perform decent in the wet, wear evenly and seem to last a long time. I also tried the RS3's which I liked but they were not very good in the wet and the edges wore out twice as fast. I have not tried the Rival's or Dunlop's though.

The Yokohamas seem to be great tires but they're not selling us a 200tw tire right now so they're out

Well, there's that
Overlooked that part.

I hope they come out with an 09 with a 200TW rating. Their sidewalls seem to be much stiffer and more squared off shoulders that help some of the camber challenged cars, IMO. Sounds like the Rival's are similar though and maybe even the new RE71's.

i ran two sets of AD08R's on my other car and while I loved the sharp responsive nature, they were in the end slower that RS3's even though the RS3's felt slower on turn in. The clock is the ultimate evaluator.

I don't know if I thought the RS3's were slower but without much camber, the edges wore out so fast, anything close in performance without the poor wear I was getting, was more appealing.

At least that's my recollection of them from 3 years ago although maybe they looked bad but weren't as bad as I thought. I'm willing to give them another try, especially since they are cheaper.

Bone stock at my first event against a guy who has trophied 3 of last 4 years in FS yesterday brought some favorable prospective. Not what I'd consider to be a National style course at all. Won by second even though I probably left a .75-1.0 out there on the learning curve. First run on mold release RS3's at 50 degrees was a nightmare.

Not that it matters much anymore, but at least at Lincoln the AD08R's are slightly faster than the R-S3 V2's - ~0.2/30sec for an FS car.

The 71R is a similar margin over all current 200tw tires. I expect the Rival S will be similar to the 71R. If you aren't on one or the other (assuming the Rival S is indeed similar to the 71R) you will probably be giving up time.

I almost ordered 2 sets of 275/35 RE71R's just to troll people

I was pretty sure that was you guys but didn't want to assume. Congrats! That's a result even with the small class you were well clear of some pretty serious business on PAX

Which sizes did you guys go with?

I took it a step further - I didn't even use tires!

Yep - both on RE-71R's. Those were actually my first 6 runs in an M3, but it still did everything I expected with no surprises - what a great car!

Sean has 275/35R18's square. I haven't had the chance to run my car yet out on the east side of the country but I initially went with 265/35R18 front and 275/35R18 rear. I will likely switch to the square setup though unless the 265/275 does something magical, as I thought the balance was perfect and see no reason to not run it that way.

I don't think you're adding or taking away much speed so much as changing how the speed is made with wider/narrower tires and maybe adding a little better wear and maybe better heat/2-driver tolerance on these newer faster street tires if you're "cramming" them on a 9. I think the 275 ZII's look perfect on a 9 but I'm forever scarred by hoosier-pinching

Congrats on the results at the SD Tour. I must say it's pretty encouraging to have great results right of the box. I was pleased at how predictable and easy it was to catch when it wanted to step out a bit. It's going to be a good year.

Congratulations John & Sean.

Would you mind saying if they were run at 8/32" or shaved?

Thanks,

Thanks,
8/32" is the molded depth - in tire depths are always lower than molded depths. The RE-71R is just a touch over 7/32" when you actually measure it. We ran them full depth (unshaved), and these had 6 quick hotlaps on the practice course from the day before.
