Help pick the 335's replacement

I'm sick of HPFP problems causing me to go to the dealer all the time and getting limp modes at the track. I'm thinking about just getting a NA car that won't overheat and have the various other problems the BMW has. For ~$30k-$35k you can get:

C6 Corvette
Cayman/Boxster ('05-'06 at that price probably)
E46 M3

I'll be driving the car 25k miles a year and likely doing a track day every month or two. Thoughts?

If you want the best car on the list above to do both daily driving, the occasional track day and still look the business plus make you feel great, then the only choice is the Porsche. It's the only one that will have the standard brakes to cope with track days and still drive home, it's also the one which will be easiest on the tyres and will also hold the best value after your done.

The Vette by far especially if your driving 25k a year. P cars and Bmws are expensive to fix and maintain.

Uhm. There are some styling cues I like better on the Porsche. But overall feel and value per dollar the m won

A dear friend of mine brought a Z4M coupe against my recommendation of the Cayman instead. At that time the Cayman S had under 300hp and was the slower in a straight line coupled with it's price gap made the Z4 too hard to resist.

Needless to say he wished he had listened to me because he hates his Z4 now, finding the thing extremely tiring on back roads where it requires far too much continuous steering input just to keep it on a straight line where bumps on the road constantly knock it off course (Ulster's back roads are not the greatest). At the track on the rare occasions he's had it there it was a real joy he said but in his words he doesn't spend enough time there to justify it's failings as a road car.

He has tried the new Z4 and found it a superior car on the road but doubt it will provided a similar joy on the track. Possibly the new M/sport package being tested will bridge the gap between the two as the new Cayman S is an expensive options when specced the way he wants it and the awful trade in price being allowed on his Z4.

Bmw just bought back my 135i as well, going with an 06-07 Cayman S. If I need more power I will slap on a TPC turbo kit in 2 years.

I really like the Porsche's best but I don't know how much more it would cost to maintain than the vette. The choice between those 3 cars is pretty tough for me. I've driven a Cayman PDK quite a bit and it is the most fun 245hp car I have ever driven.

How big of a dude are you (if you don't mind me asking)? I looked at Caymans because I think its a car with a ton of potential, but damn its tight inside (much tighter than my Z4 IMO).

I'd own one as a weekend car, but I just don't think I could own one as a DD. Plus when you look out at the a-pillar, it just looks like you have 2-3cm of side impact protection max.

In the end I chose the 135 because its got good power and torque, is surprisingly utilitarian and large inside while keeping its outer dims small and it feels nice and solid. Good luck with your choice, they all look like they have their +'s.

I'm 6' 170lbs. I fit well in Cayman sport seats.

As much as I like the Cayman and I think its a great car... in my opinion a Cayman ... is a Cayman. Ain't no real porsche to me. I KNOW its such a GOOD car and everything. Put the 911 motor in there... it would be better than a 911. But its a Cayman.

Also, the thing with Porsche is that everything is in fricking option... like BMW. No standard Xenon, Leather, Power Seat, Nav.. NOTHING.

How much do you want to spend? 60-70k?

At the $30-35k price range, go for the new 370Z, if you're ok with having a 2 seater.

If not, save up for a new e90 M3. You'll love it.
