Just got a black/black loaded 6M a week ago. Crazy about the car but had I known the dealer would be receiving two DCT cars several days later, I'd have waited until I could've test driven the DCT to compare. Dealer never said they were arriving, though.

Is the M-DCT better than the 6-speed manual?
I would like to hear from some European BMW M3 enthusiasts as to which is the more desirable transmission in Europe, as Americans seem to favor the new dual clutch set-up over the 6-speed manual.

It's not a war...simply a discussion as to which is the more preferred M3 transmission in America and Europe, and the reasons why.

I think most people in Europe will favor DKG.
The reason for that i canīt explain but probably because itīs has faster shift times and easy to drive if you turn it to auto. Humm, i ordered DKG because launch control. just kidding. Best Regards, Maika

Initially, I was waiting for the DCT, but after spending some extended time behind the wheel of the 6-speed, I wouldn't mind if I ended up in either one. At this point though, I am waiting on the model year 2009 for the Google Maps integration into iDrive, the European seat cushions, and the possibility of some more interior and exterior options (which admittedly may not be forthcoming).

I don't see why this thread should turn ugly. It's just a preference.

i think many buyers from the new m3 went with the new 135i, and others are waiting fot M-DCT, there are a lot of new m3's in stock at the dealers, when the e46 m3 was new in 2001 almost averyone paid over msrp, and now they not selling well even below msrp.

Do the you with SMG vs Manual and you will see the ratio was huge in favour of the stick shift. Whether the new system eats inroads into this advantage for manual is unknown but when you take into account the extra Ģ2600 BMW are charging for the privilege then I somehow think we will see a lot more manuals than DCT. Only one person's opinion and feel free to disagree. |

Yes, because individual members survey Europe daily and know the preferences of all European M3 drivers.

Most luxury item, that includes BMW specially the M3, are not selling well on our current economy. It can be good or bad. It will be good because there will be les buyer with more supplies but bad if you are affected by the current economy. Let us just be hoperful that the economy will get better.
