Actually, it's a good friend of mine that sells the Plastidip for Canada so I paid him to do it since he's a pro and I wanted a perfect job! But from what he told me, he sells a lot of kit for DIY that include the same paint gun that he's using and gallons of dip for costumers who wants to be able to do it as much time as they want!

Hey guys, don't want to start a new thread on winter setups so decided to revive this one since I need some help from fellow Canadians that know our winters.
I need some opinions on how to setup the car for winter. I have a few ideas but would like your thoughts and suggestions to help me narrow it down or perhaps open my eyes with some new ideas. Currently have the 220M wheels with the stock summer Conti tires. 1. I can just wrap the 220M in winter rubber and keep the summer tires for a summer set of wheels...thinking of getting OEM ZCP wheels for next summer. 2. Get a set of winter wheels but I want to keep the car looking stock so thinking of the gunmetal 219's and would like to run the stock tire sizes but winter tires 3. Go with something that is not stock looking but a bit different and original since its only for winter and will be on the car for a rather short time. Initial thoughts about size would be 19s since they look better on the car and I am not lowered to make an after market 18 wheel look good. Having said that, perhaps there are awesome looking 18s out there that look good on stock height. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated and since there is still time before our first winter storm I can make an informed decision that I'll be happy with. One last thing, would I be able to run 245 fronts and 265 rears winters?? Oh, and this is not my DD so it wont be seeing the snow all the time except the times when I want to take it out to have some fun. Thanks!

I like your #1. having a stock look for winter and new hotter wheels for summer. If you can go square, that's even better as you can rotate them to prolong the wear.

Oh, also I am waiting on a quote for the OEM 219M too in gunmetal...they look sweet and fit the car rather well. CSMRX7, your car looks amazing in winter mode. both the BBS and VMR are 19s right?

^ I am on the same train of thought. Even though its winter, I still want it to look good.

Here's my winter shoes. Nothing like X-drive to power you through the white stuff! We'll the 22's will come off replaced by the stock 19's

^ haha that is awesome! My budget for a winter setup is max $3k. Then I thought, what if I used that money to buy a beater just for the winter. I am sure I could find something pretty good and reliable for $3k like a civic or something like that and store the M3. Not sure if I could go this long without driving her but sure makes sense...will have to seriously think about it hahaha

You will miss the M too much. Buy a slightly used set of winters from someone on the forum and drive the car. The car will handle great with the correct set up. |

^ Totally agree. At the end of the day, who am I kidding, right? I bought the M to drive and not to store away for months even in our Canadian winter.
I am thinking of going with this setup for winter... Wheels
Tires
A few questions to confirm this should be kosher
Any input would be greatly appreciated and if there are any pics of this winter setup, well, needless to say, I would love to see it

If going with dunlop, go with the new & improved "4D". 3D is discontinued but you can still buy it (prob. last year's production leftover), just like the Bridgestone LM60 which is on clearance now at Tire Rack.

Actually, while waiting for service in Town&Country BMW...I noticed they are carrying performance tire with TPMS...it got a 833 mhz label on it. I didn't bother inquiring since its almost winter anyway. |
