While I am not a huge fan of the new M3 it is one I would consider when the E90 M3 needs replacing in a few years. Is it perfect, no. But neither is the E90 I'm driving now.
I've seen this pattern of old vs. new model hatred before. As an early adopter of the E60 (2004 545) I was the target of this same hatred from the E39 owners. I bought a second E60 (2008 550) and watched the new F10 5-series come out. The E60 owners reacted the same way, bashing the F10...

Just as some E9x owners are accused of being "butt hurt" about having an inferior car, some F8x owners might be accused of exaggerating the improvements on the F8x to justify their purchase of what many regard as a soul-less, watered down version of an M car that is a little too close to a 335i/435i M Sport for comfort. Frankly, I don't really give a damn what people drive or that the F80 is faster than the E92. A Z06 will blow the doors off both cars for the same money (as new versions of both). There is always something faster on the road than whatever you're in. The key is to find a car that makes you happy and checks all your boxes. |

I don't get the hate for the new M3. It's by all accounts a great car. If you don't like it don't get one. It just reeks of insecurity for everyone to constantly bash the new model.

Agreed but what I was referring to were the E60 owners hating on the new F10...
Owners of the older generation hate on the new generation. Owners of the newer generation trash the older generation. Rinse, repeat...

Fellas! Fellas! Drop your cocks and pull up your socks! Just because you bought it doesn't mean you now have the biggest wandello ever, good god! Tech marches baby, straight into the future. Everything about the new M is better than our cars except the sound and the red line. Go drive it. Case closes. (Well Ok, yes, the nav screen is cheesy sticking up from the dash like a menu at Sonic. So don't order it.)
I love my 2010 M3. I will be sad to let her go. But she will be for sale come spring, because I have driven the 2015 Mustang and when you hang the GT badge on that thing, it will be all over. Because???? Well, because I will put half as much cash as we spend on M mods into Mustang GT Mods and will have a fire breathing M killer when I am done, with enough dough left over for years worth of track tires. And no Orange Peel, ha! So... is it love? Is it Money? Or is it just pussy? Did someone insult your wife, or worse, your girlfriend??? I mean, come on. Rise above it. You get a really good view of reality from 10,000 feet Our cars are great. So are F80s. So are E46s. How far back do you need to go before you realize you are an old F****r now simply because of your attitude. OUT

We all have great cars... Buy what you enjoy and go for a drive instead of fighting on the internet. The new M3 is a family friendly, comfortable sedan that gets to 60 in fewer than 4 seconds, how amazing is that? $70k for a car so capable? We're in a golden age of automobiles.

Put a 4.4 or 4.6L engine with DI (an proper bearing clearance) and most on this board would LOVE that car. Drop this motor in an F80/82 and add DI for more power and improved fuel economy... epic. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1056559 .

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

This is the likely reason for M4 not making the cut. BMW pretty much sold out the race lineage while Ford has revitalized theirs.

Good summary of the fact pattern.
Fact of the matter is some of the people (just a few) have resorted to providing dis-information, jumping to premature/erroneous conclusions or discrediting the driving of accomplished race drivers or journalists (e.g the SportAuto Hockenheim expert), personally attacking other members, ignoring the black and white statements in printed material/ or not reading articles, or using the excuse of "you can only have an opinion if you have driven the car" type of censorship. Not to mention several of the logical inconsistencies, i.e. the Nurburingring time is great for a 425 bhp car, but in dyno and 1/4 threads it's "there's no way it produces only 425 bhp car". I think you tend to see this in more of the younger owners/fans who have not developed the emotional maturity to engage in a civil debate or sharing of opinions and generate 90% of the controversy or others just like to debate for the sake of debating in a perpetual devil's advocate circle, with inflammatory comments punctuated by passive-aggressive emoticons that serve as "get out of jail free" cards. In some of these engagements with those outright attacking me, I vigorously defended myself and my views and said that if you feel so wronged, report my posts to the mods (of course, none were taken down). The other sad part is that some very valuable contributors to the boards have gotten sick of the nonsense and have engaged in a "silent boycott" that I feel is a big loss to the community. The vast majority of the other members in M4 board are actually great and offer some really good perspectives (good and bad) that are helpful for others making a decision and I've really enjoyed some of the content they contributed. One member (who is an instructor) actually gave some great advice when tracking the car, which was awesome. Quote:

All this bickering between e9x and f8x community has got to stop, seriously. I'm getting sick and tired of e9x owners saying f8x sucks, and f8x owners saying e9x sucks. Buy what YOU want and keep it moving...at the end of the day, you'll be driving it.
I sometimes wonder if Audi owners complained as much as BMW owners when Audi changed their v8's to SC'ed v6. Can anyone active on Audi forums shed some light?
