re71r wear so fast

Do I push too much on track for this tire or its completely normal wear ?

Also run them at arround 35-36 psi hot

I'm running -3 camber up front and -1.8 rear.

RE71R are known to wear fast. It's why I'm still on the older AD08R.

Saw other car with same tire but they were not looking that greasy or wearing that much. It was lighter car like golf R my car is currently 3460lbs looking to shave more weight.

The rice grain look is normal. Most of the tires I have ever tracked do it, save for the R888R and PSC2.

It's hard to compare wear between two cars, even if they're both setup identically. Everyone drives differently.

Looks normal but maybe take some pressure out?
You're not rolling/wearing on the edges at all.

These are great tires for the first 3 laps then fall off. If your looking to beat the shit out of them for 20 minute sessions these are not the tires for you. They warm up very fast, stick like glue for 3 laps or so. Then fall off. Good tire for TT, or autocross.

Is that why half the cars I see at HPDEs use them? Because they only want to have fun for the first 3 laps?

Wear is directly related to pace as well as weight.
Two cars same weight, different lap times will wear the tire differently.

Wear and pace are not linear. A tire will last few track days up to an infliction point, then it will be consumed very quickly the minute you cross a specific lap time.

Driver input will help wear but if the MDM mode is on, it is mostly lap time, be that the first track day, or the fourth.

Does not make a different which 100-200 tire you chose, they all mostly wear the same, although they do have 1 to 2 second lap time differences.

I have not tried the RE-71 yet, but I tried most of the 100-200 out there

Looks normal, but if you are at fast pace, -3.5 worked better for me. I tried 32-38 hot on many tires and for 3500Lbs car 38psi seems to work the best.

This is what happen to me but when I came back in pit , i've check tire pressure and they were up to 42psi , probably lost of traction for to much pressure.

It look like my brake overheat my wheel which overheat tire...

Will try to put azote in tire for less pressure change.

Those day i've done 7 sessions of 20minutes and it was only 40 minutes between each.

This is the track , Circuit Mont-Tremblant.

*Jackie Stewart once said : The only race track more difficult that Circuit Mont-Tremblant is Monaco.*

Possibly. It is a more track-focused tire. The RE71R is pretty good if you want something reasonable for street + track use. The R888R is horrible in standing water.

If you don't know the weather, and you don't have a second set, going with the R888R is risking sitting on the side line waiting and praying for a drier line to form. The R888R will be ok for wet track, but not for standing water. The RE71 will at least let you go out in a drizzle. Not sure about torrential rain. As comparison I was on MPS4S in torrential rain doing lap after lap but eventually hydroplaned at 60mph and called it good. I suspect the RE71 can be similar.

thanks for the input ! i will run another set of re71r and next year will get third set of wheel and have hoosier since it seems to be the best choice.

Maybe will upgrade to 10.5 square and 295 tire

My advice would be to work your way up to the Hoosier. Going straight from an RE71R to a Hoosier is a big step. Consider something more intermediate like a Proxes RR or Nankang AR1 first.

Just take a look on Nankang AR1 and read a bit on it and I think i may give them a try next month and will not buy another set of re71r instead.

I can have them really cheap so may worth a try !

Don't get the R888R, it is complete shit. I had a set and threw them away at 50% wear.
It might work for other cars or other purposes. It is garbage on the M3.

There are other options that wear slower than the RE71R, but are also slower. The AD08R, the RS4 for example are options that work well and last longer

I know the topic of greasy RE71s is popular on the forums, but if you go to AER that runs 8h endurance races, the vast majority of the teams run the RE71.

The RRs are identical on pace to RE71Rs, just with a little more high temp endurance. AR1s are a little faster for sure, but they wear a little quicker if you’re leaning on them.

Those tires pictured look great considering 7x 20min sessions. That much time on hoosiers (or yoko A052s) and you’ll probably be into the cords. Again assuming you’re pushing the car hard.

Where are you guys sourcing AR1s at decent price? I may give them a try knowing that they'll only last a few days.
