Is it time for new TA's?
My car has randomly shut off a couple times these past weeks and I wait 5-10 mins restart and it's fine. However today was dramatic as I went into limp mode on the frickin freeway and it was kind of hard to steer and all havoc broke loose. I was still able to restart and drive fine once I pulled over safely.
I still have a 3rd party warranty so hoping this will be covered, if not no biggie. |

Driving with fauty TA's is not risky no worries I've been there. It will just throw the car in limp mode with 4K rpm redline cant push the car hard but drivable

I'd rather not say since they are a reputable forum vendor, but I will say they recognized the error and fixed it. If you really must know you can PM me.
I ended up still having this issue and got the April 2016 date battery replaced with a new OEM battery. Hopefully this does the trick. Previous battery was also never registered which might be the case too. |

UPDATE:
I don't like when people leave threads like these hanging so hopefully this will help another member in the future. The main culprit was a frayed engine ground cable. I have no idea how it happened but my goodness does it make your car lose its sh*t! I hate/love when it's a minor fix for a major problem. Thankfully it was all covered under my warranty! |

The ground on the lower left of my car is getting pretty gnarly and it's on my winter PM list after 133000 miles. They do wear out from flexing over time. Was it that one?
I haven't had any shutdowns but have had a few phantom codes and it's clearly corroded and no longer a tight, flat braid. It's funny how the diagnostic software makes it so easy to overlook the simple stuff. This car like all cars since before the distributor was invented is dependent on good grounding but when the car throws a code it can be for something apparently unrelated.

I'd suggest getting that changed before everything shuts down if you're having similar early warning signs. At its worst, after limp mode you won't even be able to start your car or put into neutral for towing if DCT equipped. Cant believe dealer charged over $300 labor for a $20 cable Quote:
My car shutdown on the freeway too, holy sh*t that got scary pretty quick. |
