Do you take your M3 to the track?

Our cars are popular for track use, with good reason. I'm curious what proportion of forum members take their ///M to the track.

The e46 got lots of track time.
My first e90 saw maybe 6 days per year.
The current e90 hasn't had it's cherry popped, yet.

I acually bought the M3 to track it. It is simply the best multipurpose car out there.

It sees 15+ track days a year .

Own an E36 and I track it all the time, plus looking to upgrade to an E46 and I'd track that as well.

The E92 isn't bad though. The baby seat fits very well in the back and with the folding seats you can fit pretty much anything in there .

How is loading tires and wheels in the back through the front doors?

why buy an M3 if not to track it? they aren't exactly the greatest daily drivers out there. I just bought mine this year and already did about 12 track days with it. I would have done more if I wasn't so busy with work.

I want to track my car at least just once. I have not broken the car in yet. Question, do I really need a set of track tires to just go once? I have the comp package set up. Yeah I know 1 time will turn into 50 but hypothetically for this one time.

I literally came back to a M3 (from a GTR) so I could track the crap out of it without any worries or major costs... Plan to track 1-2 times a month.

I agree with others above that there really isn't any other car out there that can show up at a track day in the morning, have a blast .. and then in the evening go out for a dinner and a movie with the wife in comfort and style

You don't need track tires...you do need a good track inspection of your car prior. There is a bunch of information out there for getting ready for your first track event.

DO IT!

There are lots of cars that can do this... Just about any Porsche for starters.

I got out only three times last year which is not as often as I would have liked. It's very addicting and gets expensive quick, but it's so worth it!

May I suggest 'Tracks Days. The Glovebox Guide' by Hamish Smart as a good book on preparing and going to the track.

I have 28 sessions on the Nurburgring over the course of the last two years with my E46 M3. I just picked up my 2013 E92 and, unfortunately, will have to wait until after the 1200 mile break-in and next spring to track it.

It's not just popular for track use, it's a car whose existence can only be truly appreciated on the track -- even more so than other cars. Does the M3 also make casual daily driving more fun than other cars? Of course. But you just don't understand how much better an M3 is than all those other cars (and how much fun you can have in it) until you see what it can do out there. Not even twisty canyon roads come close to delivering that sensation.

I don't think the added cost of an M3 over a 335i for example (even ignoring the higher running costs) are justifiable UNLESS you take it to the track occasionally IMHO. And yes, as others have said, if you're going for your first few times you can run it bone stock and be fine. As you get faster (i.e. get better versions of the "driver mod"), the first thing you'll need to get is upgraded brake fluid, then brake pads, then maybe larger tires with a square setup and possibly even grippier summer tires that wear faster, or up to R-compounds once you can handle them. After that you'd be looking at suspension mods (camber plates, coilovers, etc).

I upgraded from an 06 325ci to the 08 E92 for the track. I love the versatility between track car and DD. But it does scream to be taken to the track. No problem loading 4 275X35/18 in through the front doors, I have them in Tire Totes so the handle helps the loading. And it's going to be my winter car as well. Incredible!
