I just looked at the VAC website and noticed they sell uncoated JE pistons for $1500 and coated ones for $3000:
https://store.vacmotorsports.com/je-...s65-p3582.aspx I think JE can do the coating for alusil. BMW, Mercedes and Audi have been using Alusil for years so the requirements are not new to the aftermarket. The Mahle are proven to work in the S65 application, and Mahle makes the stock pistons, so Mahle is the safest bet. But if you do your homework, maybe you can save some money with the JE. I would want to make sure the rings are the correct spec for alusil -- some say beveling is required. And that the piston material is correct and the clearances are correct. 2618 is popular in the forced induction aftermarket but expands more so if you dropped 2618 pistons in place of 4032 and did not change the clearance, you would have problems. VAC would blame your engine assembler. You need to be confident you have all the details sorted out before trying something that others have not done on this particular engine. Maybe others have, but the details have not been posted here. Ask VAC who else is using the JE in an S65 and contact those people. |

BMRLVR, DSLJ5 and OM VT3 all told you to use the Mahle pistons and you still don't know what to do? Return the JE and buy Mahle instead.
