lemanszcpm3, that's some badass setup you got there.
How many heat cycles do you get with those tires?

Went to Sonoma with Speed Ventures on Sunday. The car felt good on the new rod bearings, plugs air filter, etc. Anyway, I was able to set a new personal best in the 96ºF temps. I would like to go back in some cooler temps and do some better braking and there's quite a bit of time to gain.

Went to Thunderhill 3-Mile with Bypass today with SpeedSF. They put on a really nice day in the blazing heat.
2009 E90 M3 Track/course: Thunderhill Raceway 3-mile with Bypass Best Lap Time: 1:54.73 (transponder) Brakes: AP Racing - Cobalt Friction XR2 front/XR3 rear Tires: BFGoodrich R1S 285/30/18 Suspension: JRZ RS Pro Other mods: VF620, RD Sport front sway bar, car is gutted with full roll cage, APR 67" GT-250 wing, carbon lip, APR front splitter, AJ Hartmann Canards, Akrapovic X-Pipe, exhaust: straight through with resonators, do88 DCT cooler, Recaro Pro Racer halo seat, DSC-off It was 96ºF during this run. (It was 100ºF during their SpeedSF Challenge. I ran an almost identical time--only a couple hundredths difference--in the Challenge.) Like yesterday at Sonoma, I felt that my braking was conservative. Not surprising. It's been 2 years since my last visit. Anyway, after a couple sessions, I got the flow of the track back in my head and then the times started to drop. Tire psi management was SOOO important today. The temps rose dramatically and quickly. I was sloppy and didn't check the psi as it got hot and the car got super nervous. Once I got the tires back to the right psi, it settled down and my times started to drop. I had slicks with me this weekend, but I decided not to run them. It seemed like a waste to run them in the high temps at tracks I don't visit much. I'll save them for a cooler day at Laguna Seca or a time attack or something like that. My buddy was there with a 996 Cup Car that he just bought. He's just starting to get comfortable with it and he was already tearing up the track doing 1:53's....yowza! |

Track/course: Road Atlanta Best Lap Time: 1:46.21 Brakes: Stock rotors/calipers with Pagid RS19 pads Tires: Pilot Super Sports - 265/30/19, 295/30/19 Suspension: KW Clubsport 2 way, -2.0F/-1.6R Other mods: Monoball front control arms, RPI xpipe+muffler, drop-in filter Ambient temperature was 95+ each day and track temps were 135+ which made for a slippery time on the super sports in the afternoon sessions. Was also running with a damaged oil cooler which was giving me overheating problems. I want to try it again in the cooler fall weather...with a fully functional oil cooler as well lol. |

2008 E90 M3
Track/course: Mid-Ohio Club Course Best Lap Time: 1:49.xx Brakes: Stock, powerstop trackday pads Tires: Kumho ps91 275/35/18f 275/40/18r Suspension: stock Other mods: none First time at this track with this car, the ps91s don't have the braking or lateral grip of the re71r on the car previously. No chunking on full-tread-depth tires, on max stock camber they wanted about 36psi hot. Brakes held up well but a little inconsistent - coming down from indicated 135 on back straight, braking @ 500 marker. Oil temps just broke middle hash (255?) at 80ish degrees ambient and mobil1 mixed 0w40/15w50 within a 25 minute session |

I've missed all the Glen events so far (except for ARPCA which was a wash out). But still lined up for Labor Day at VIR, so see you guys there! May end up only doing one WGI event this year (9/25-26 with Group 52).

Went to Laguna Seca Thursday (8-3-17) with Speed District. As usual, a nice event put on by Speed District. Tons of track time. And the car count was low.
2009 E90 M3 Track/course: Laguna Seca Best Lap Time: 1:34.33 (transponder) Brakes: AP Racing - Cobalt Friction XR2 front/XR3 rear Tires: Yokohama Slicks Suspension: JRZ RS Pro Other mods: VF620, RD Sport front sway bar, car is gutted with full roll cage, APR 67" GT-250 wing, carbon lip, APR front splitter, AJ Hartmann Canards, Akrapovic X-Pipe, exhaust: straight through with resonators, do88 DCT cooler, Recaro Pro Racer halo seat, DSC-off After holding back on using the Yokos a couple weeks ago, I decided to use them today. Glad I did. The car was ready to run. The weather may not have been perfect, but all the other conditions were right. It took me awhile to get back into the flow of the track since I only visit once a year. This lap was run at the end of the day. The weather was a bit odd. It was quite warm and sunny in the early morning---almost 80ºF and really humid. The pavement had really retained the heat and sun from the previous day. Then mid-day, the clouds set in and it cooled a bit. It was around 77ºF during my fast lap at 4:15PM. I had a technical issue that popped up just before this event. Monday, I went to get an oil change and have my quiet exhaust installed for Laguna. At the shop, I drove the car out of the trailer and there was a stripe of oil behind the car on the ground......One of my DCT oil lines was POURING transmission fluid out the bottom of the car. Thanks to Minicorsa for scrambling to get the parts in time to have the car done the day I had to leave for Laguna (the dealer sent the wrong parts which delayed things by a day).....I literally picked up the car as soon as it was done and drove straight to the track. Speaking of quiet exhausts----today was a 90db day. I have a supercharged engine that feeds into an Akra EVO x-pipe that flows into a stock exhaust. I jammed full throttle in 3rd gear past the sound booth all day without any issues whatsoever. A bunch of Porsches were having noise-limit problems today. Video: |
