Must have tool for all s65 owners!

The first time I removed the intake plenum, I used a bunch of extensions. It was a pita.

Then I bought a flexible extension and can have the plenum off in a couple of minutes, big help with cylinders 1,2,7,& 8. Many of you are smarter than I am and likely already use this type of extension, but maybe this will help someone new, I highly recommend this or something similar:

I agree so strenuously it'd make you wanna barf. My first plenum removal was so clunky and prolonged, it was embarrassing. I used a flex extension from Amazon last month and it, too, took 5 minutes or less - on and off.

Interesting tool.
I used wobble extensions when I changed out the fuel breather valve. Don't remember having any issues.

Using a 7 buck tool like this. Slips in fine, no need to take off plug covers or move the coolant tank.

Keep that red cap on the battery post, or you just may arc the battery to the fuel rail on #4 with a loooooong extension...ask me how I know!

You guys don't have universals on 1/4 inch?

Just thinking if I need to get something like this as I'll be removing my plenum for fuel tank breather valve soon enough.

I have flexible extension that will also work, designed for power bit driver. But I like collecting tools.

Universals present their own usabilty challenges, and usually add significant bulk.

That said, when you're using universals, use these:
https://www.amazon.com/Sunex-3301-Un...s%2C143&sr=8-1

They are a revelation vs. the normal sort. ESPECIALLY if you use a lot of impact guns.

But for the plenum where you're just undoing hose clamps? The OP's suggestion of a spring wire flex extension is great. Grab a pack of them cheap. They wear out if you abuse them.

I also have a set of universal sockets. They don't get a huge amount of use, but when I need them, they make life a LOT better.

The set of wobbly ratchet extensions I picked up from Harbor Freight on a whim have turned out to be among my most-used tools. Way stronger and easier to use than u-joints, but often give just enough play when necessary.

I used one of these from Amazon, made removing the plenum a piece of cake on my first attempt.

am i the only one who only uses 2 different straight extensions to remove the plenum?

I just did it yesterday and it only took a few minutes but you can get to all of the boots with the right size 1/4 extensions of course provided the clamps have been installed where they're supposed to be.

I do it the same way and hold the ring with a finger so it doesn't slide back as it gets loose. But I can see how the flexible extension can save time though as it can bend to get into the right angle instead of your back.

Same here, I don't even use an extension anymore, just my 1/4 inch nut driver, can just get in enough for the passenger rear.

Guys this is hearsay... The S65 is bullet proof. I've had my car for 3 weeks now, and I've talked to some very reputable race techs and even BMW NA and as long as you properly warm up the car (like any well informed enthusiast) nothing is needed. Well aside from air filters, those are key to keeping future maintenance in check. Just a bunch of fear mongering.
