OEM Exhaust Mod in GTA

I'm considering the OEM exhaust mod (the perforated pipes method, not the straight pipes method) and was wondering if anyone has any shop recommendations (in the GTA, preferably).

^Thanks!

For others interested, it also looks like Felix Muffler does this.

I had mine done at BimmerSport in Mississauga. They did a great job and also painted the cans black as per my request. Sounded awesome!

Thanks 6ixSpd.

TaxLit - I did not. I was planning on using the muffler currently on my car.

I bought that one to do exactly this. Unsure if I'm doing the 2, 2.5, or 4 pipe though.

I did the 2 perforated pipe method and it sounded absolutely awesome. No drone and a sweet scream when you're on it.

4 pipe is literally a bypass, in which case you may as well remove the heavy mufflers anyways and just do a muffler delete.

I also had my exhaust modded at Bimmersport and you would not believe how incredible the V8 sounds. I probably get compliments every day when I am out and about town.

I'm torn between getting the 2 perforated pipe method or just shelling out the money for a MPE. Seems like many people are big advocates of the former.

Razkal - did you have the 2 perforated pipe method done?

I have had both exhausts....

Save your money, do the OEM exhaust mod. The car should have come like that from the factory. The sound is (in my opinion) so much nicer than the MPE and no chance or welds cracking either.

Appreciate the feedback here folks. I went to LG Auto Exhaust yesterday to get the 2 pipe mod done.

For those looking for a shop, there were three shops in the GTA I found to do this: LG Auto Exhaust, Bimmersport and Felix Mufflers. I choose LG Auto Exhaust because they were the only ones open on a Sunday. Keep in mind however they will be the most expensive out of the three, with Felix being the cheapest.

My experience with LG Auto Exhaust wasn't excellent. When I called to schedule my appointment, I was told it would take 4-5 hours (which was fine, as I was given the heads up). I arrived Sunday morning at 11:30am for my appointment and they quickly got my car on the hoist. However, I did not leave until 7:30pm - 8 hours later. It wasn't until about 6:30pm did they apologize for the wait and finally explain what was taking so long (apparently there welder did not show up to work so they were down a worker). I would have at least appreciated a heads up that it would take double the quoted time, or a recommendation that I reschedule when I had arrived, or even a heads up after 5 hours that I would be waiting much longer than expected. Worst of all was the fact that other people were coming and going and my car did not seem to take priority (despite me being one of the first customers there). Nonetheless, they were apologetic and they do seem like nice people (which does count for something, I guess). The workmanship is hard to judge as I am not an experienced welder. However they do take pride in their work as the owner (Alan) was quite meticulous with ensuring his welds were done proper and the exhaust was aligned properly when he re-installed it. There waiting area also allows for the customer to view there car being worked on and they don't seem to mind if you go into the shop area to chat about the work.

As far the exhaust mod itself, it's pretty much what people have previously stated. Inside the cabin with the windows up, there is only a noticeable increase in volume and tone change from ~2,900 - 3,500 rpms. Inside the cabin with the windows down, there is a considerable volume and tone difference from ~2,900 - 4,500 rpms. From idle to ~2,800 rpms the car sounds bone stock from inside (windows up or down). After ~4,500 rpms the motor's induction noise takes over (windows up or down). Although I haven't heard it from outside yet (i.e. someone else driving my car while I stand outside), I think the differences are much more apparent based on the way it resonates from walls/tunnels.

Overall I am very happy. I was really hoping for a tone difference and volume increase under 3,000 rpms from inside the cabin, but you do not get that with the 2 pipe method. In my opinion, the car sounds almost perfect but I wish there was more grunt under 3,000 rpms. As others have stated - this is how the car should have came from the factory.

I would be very curious to see how this compares to the MPE - if anyone in the GTA has one without any other exhaust mods, I would be very interested in hearing it!

Hope this helps those considering the mod!

Get test pipes and you'll be in heaven! Just the right bump in volume and tone and zero intrusion.

8 hours is absolutely nuts. I hope they compensated you for that...

^Already considering it. If I remember correctly, you have TPs paired with the MPE? What's the smell like afterwards. My car is a DD.

Non existent unless I stand behind the car while it's idling. Even then, it's extremely minimal. I've never smelled it while driving, and I'm almost always driving with windows down. The secondaries do a great job of filtering it without robbing power.

I got the Rogue Engineering ones as they're the least expensive and good quality. Can't believe people were paying $500+ USD for two steel tubes lol...

If you need a tune after, let me know. I've got a good contact locally for that.

RE hands down makes the best products for BMWs at the price range they offer.
I had their spacers before and even the Macht Schnell ones couldn't compare. I'm probably going to have to go with RE Test Pipes also down the road. Who/which tune are you running?

I got the non-resonated ones paired to MPE. I'm running an Active Autowerke tune and love it.

No source locally. Ship them to CBIUSA in Niagara and pick them up
