Too much exhaust bass - Need tips on modifying

Anyone experienced aftermarket systems with too much bass on low end?

The Bimmerworld axle back currently on my car has bass levels way too high for my taste. I'm looking for a way to modify the mufflers to reduce bass resonance in the cabin, making the V8 sing without sound like it has a hand covering its mouth and all I hear from the inside are deep mumbles.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What you are referring to is known as DRONE. Many aftermarket exhausts will drone pretty badly. Some are more sensitive to it than others.

Are you running an Xpipe, or all factory aside from the Bimmerworld mufflers?

Ah, so this is the infamous droning on these cars I've heard about. It can be pretty unbearable at times.

The car came with a Macht Shnell X-Pipe.

As opposed to the double mufflers is what you're suggesting?

No hes referring to the Xpipe. The Macht Schnell pipe is very loud. You should consider replacing that Xpipe with one that has 4 resonators instead of the 2 that are there now.

OP, no experience from this particular muffler but it sounds like it doesn't have resonators (or Helmholtz chambers when built in, like for instance our OEM mufflers). Had the same exact experience with a Borla S system (while Atak has helmholtz), crazy bassy up to 2-2.5 k rpm. Terrible I thought, sold it to a guy who loved it. Bottom line, don't think its worth messing about with, get another muffler.

A stock Xpipe will fix that. You can always get test pipes if you want to remove the main cats and run a stage 2 tune.
