My FCP Euro OEM struts came in and viola...PERFECT. We just have to admit, there is not many aftermarket choices for our hood struts for such a specialty hood.

Glad you got it fixed but bummed that the autohausz ones didn’t work, mine just came in today. I’m going to try them until I can get some OE ones from FCP.

Has anyone tried this part from FCP? It seems to be the right Stabiis part number:

I think that is the heavier strut.

Please report back if these have the proper pressure for the lightweight hood. If so these would be a great find!

So this leads me to believe these are STILL the 330N strut even though they are not marked. I bit the bullet and bought the BMW marked M3 struts from FCP Euro. Luckily I only have $20-$30 in these current struts.
I installed the Tuff struts from Autohausaz
no markings
they do seem a little too strong ... but not so strong that the hood pops up too hard or fast
just takes a little more effort to bring down to close

i'm just going to live with these for now

FCP used to have the 330n listed for the M3. After a quick chat on IG with them they removed the Stabilus listing. They also sent me the correct OEM BMW to make it up.

Going to bump this back up.
Has anyone purchased from FCP and received the proper Stabilus part?

Some alternatives that appear to be the right Stabilus part:

Yup, bought the Genuine BMW-51237900795 hood struts from FCP Euro and they fit great.

Ok, I got my package from Schmiedmann. They sent me the 330N version even though I have specified in the message I sent them that I need the M3 specific 200N struts.
Funny thing they have it labeled as M3 specific and it says the same on the box of each strut.

I'm done searching, the only source of proper struts is the dealer. All other vendors have no idea what they are selling.

I actually picked mines up Oriely's Auto parts, $48 all in. Had to get then, my M3 got hungry and tried to eat me. Ouch! They are a little hard that the original, but for in stock, at time of pick up, they're perfect. They are Stabilus brand btw.

New OEM are quite soft when it comes to opening the hood. I bet yours are the 330n version that ALL E9X cars use BUT the M3.

I just got down going down this rabbit hole of trying to find an alternative to OEM struts for our hood. Tried 2 different vendors and both sent the wrong struts 330N vice 200N and both swore those were the correct part as per the parts catalog, one even told me the 330N is just stamped on and internally they were 200N! Wrong!! So unfortunately OEM struts have been ordered to make sure the right parts are sent.

Last year I bought them from FCP Euro. At that time, I didn't know what was the correct force, so I trusted the FCP list where the M3 was. I noticed the hood opened a little too fast, and closed a little hard. Unfortunately now I see they are the 330N Stabillus. Not nice, but I can live with that.

The OEM are definitely alot softer than the 0330N ones, sucks that the only way to get the correct part is to go OEM.

I've just recently run into this issue as well; has anyone ordered from 'parts geek'?

I came across their site and they do note 200N

https://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/20...ood_strut.html

EDIT:

Also Stabilus with correct part number here - I messaged pelican parts and they confirmed they are 200N.

Ive also contacted ECS about their Stabilus 200N struts. They confirmed they were indeed the 200N version and yet I was sent the 330N struts. Going OEM eliminates any headache. You'd think we wouldve figured this out by now

Yeah you'd think it wouldn't be such a complex thing to sort haha

Good point - suppose I was hoping that may not be the case with a different company but could totally be the same thing

Anyone try this one from Turners?
It specifies M3.

I dug up my old thread on this subject from a few years back. The end solution was to buy the bmw part. Everyone else seems to be selling the 330N lifters. I went around with ECS on this and didn't get anywhere like several of you. I'm surprised ECS/FCP hasn't sorted out this issue in the last 4 years. It's possible the 200N lifters are just not available direct from stabilus.
