I'll reiterate in summation: 1) I believe that everyone should get a flu shot, it helps reduce the chance of flu in you and reduces the chance of spreading it to others, especially those most susceptible. 2) Alternative treatments, such as emergen-c have been clinically proven to provide no benefit in reducing the chance of someone coming down with the flu or other illnesses. That should help. |

in all honesty, i could give a rat's ass if you got your flu shot. Arguing with people just ended up making me feel jaded about my profession choice. You can only lead a horse to the water, you can't make it drink.
its honestly a gamble...assess your odds, and place your bet |

Why should people get vaccinated against the flu? Influenza is a potentially serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes even death. Every flu season is different, and influenza infection can affect people differently, but millions of people get the flu every year, hundreds of thousands of people are hospitalized and thousands or tens of thousands of people die from flu-related causes every year. An annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to help protect against flu. Vaccination has been shown to have many benefits including reducing the risk of flu illnesses, hospitalizations and even the risk of flu-related death in children. Can the flu vaccine give me the flu? No, a flu vaccine cannot cause flu illness. Flu vaccines that are administered with a needle are currently made in two ways: the vaccine is made either with a) flu vaccine viruses that have been killed (inactivated) and are therefore not infectious, or b) with proteins from a flu vaccine virus instead of flu vaccine viruses (which is the case for recombinant influenza vaccine). However, the viruses are attenuated (weakened), and therefore cannot cause flu illness. The weakened viruses are cold-adapted, which means they are designed to only cause infection at the cooler temperatures found within the nose. The viruses cannot infect the lungs or other areas where warmer temperatures exist. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/keyfacts.htm

I was in for blood work and the doc asked if I wanted it. I said yes. The nurse came in later to administer it; I asked her if it would give me Autism and we had a good laugh (I’m almost too old to get the flu shot). The doc returned and told me they just had a flu case come in while I was being seen, so it is in the area and I’m glad I got the vaccine (even though it was too soon to have prevented infection from the new patient).
I get it sometimes and not other times. This year I’m traveling a lot more than usual so it seems prudent. |

I got the flu shot last week and get it every year. People who think they have a natural immunity of some kind or think they will get the flu from getting the shot are amusing until the get it and spread it around to the others who think like they do.

I just got mine today, I get one every year. Last year 6! people in my immediate area at work who did not get vaccinated ended up with full fledged flu . A couple still seemed sick when they came back to work.
Guess who didn't get sick in that incubator (I'll make it easy... me)
