Wow.

The 1 of 40 Frozen Silver ($82k msrp) with 28k miles just went for $44,500 on BaT.

That just let the air out of the market for "frozen" or "special editions".

Yeah, I guess in a way it does, though likely next week there will be some other car go for more that we might have thought. The market is crazy right now. There are still deals to be had and this was one of them. I kinda wish I had waited a bit longer when I pulled the trigger on mine earlier this year, but hell, you never know how things go. I think the good news for all E9x owners is it looks like we have reached the bottom of the curve and headed back up. The demand for the last of the pure, NA M cars will not be going away any time soon. That, at least, makes me glad I got one when I did.

This one wasnt perfect by any means. The CarFax was clean but missing service data between 15-25k miles. Not a big deal as the owner likely took it to an Independent shop during that period, but the seller didn't have those receipts.

Also, there were a few scratches and the rear bumper needed some PDR or full bumper replacement and so paint matching would be required. Also needed front windshield replacement. Maybe $5k in recon stuff. So maybe it reconciles to a $50k car. It was missing hifi stereo from the options list.

A 28k mile ZCP car in great shape might go for $45k, so tells me the frozen premium isn't that much.

I would agree with this. I was shocked when I saw a Frozen Blue at my local dealer with 15k miles going for only $53k. I would think that any E9X with 15k miles and in as close to mint as you can get would go for well above that.

Wow thx for the info. In your thread, another member found that the buyer who paid $53k immediately listed it for $95k. It hasn't sold and now price has been reduced to $72k. So for a 15k mile car that is in ok condition (front bumper drilled) and being DCT, it would be maybe $55k non frozen, so I suppose a premium of $10k for a more unique mcb frozen.

Yeah, hate that they drilled the bumper! But other than that and a couple rock chips it was mint. I took a real good look at it and it was clear it was very well maintained. But as you say, the drilled bumper is an instant buzz kill.

I would guess that the guy who purchased the car figured to make a quick killing on the deal, but has now had to sit on that car for a few months. I am not sure why he has not put it on BaT or some other high-profile site to get it sold. I would think a fair price would be around $60k given the condition and single-owner status.

Personally I am not all that turned on by the frozen colors in general, and other than the red I doubt I would ever feel it would be worth the trouble to have one. Other individual colors are far more interesting to me, and would therefore be worth the premium price that comes with it. I do really like the contrast stitching interiors that come with the frozen cars, however! Looks badass!

ZCP is the "Competition Package". It became available with the start 2011 model year production (for North American market, 03/2010); from bmwmregistry:

The Competition Package, known by the internal designation "ZCP", was introduced in March of 2010 as an option for the E90 M3 sedan and E92 M3 coupe in all worldwide markets. It consists of the following equipment:
—10mm shorter springs
—Electronic Damping Control with revised software parameters, including continuously-variable shock firmness in Sport mode

gotcha, thanks. Decoding VIN shows everything and you are correct about no comp. Although it shows manual trans when the car is DCT

Many people put Comp wheels on the older non-comp cars because they look better than the standard wheels and some unfortunately try to pass it off as a Comp car when they go to sell it. A comp package car will always draw a premium mainly due to desirability and far smaller numbers of production.

Thank you. The misunderstanding was on my part after being told by another person that the carbon roof was part of the "comp" package. Obviously that was nonsense! The car is going to be a fantastic track car and fun winter project

I bolded a sentence in your post about Carvana paying for repairs during the return period. I'm curious what exactly that means. If during the return period you find something amiss with a car, will they fix everything you find?

Yes, pretty much! They have a 7-day 'test drive' period during which you can return the car for pretty much any reason. They also say you have a 100-day warranty period for repairs, but I took it into my shop during that initial 7-day period as I felt I would have the most leverage at that point. Carvana actually uses a 3rd party warranty company, Silver Rock, to handle/pay their repair claims. The process was a bit disconnected (no cross-talk between SilverRock and Carvana, I had to call and fill Carvana in on what was happening several times/request an extension of the return period) and it took a couple weeks, but everything they found was taken care of.

I'm pretty sure this was previously an IND featured build so it had lots of aftermarket goodies and recently had thousands done in maintenance including RB(ACL&ARP)/TA/fuel injectors/plugs/fuel sending unit/fuel breather/fuel pressure sensor/DCT service. PO even gave me a box of unused coils he had bought to troubleshoot what ended up being an unrelated problem.
