Unable to measure oil level error

So I checked out an 09 E92 with 58k on the clock. It had a regular service history at BMW dealers and pretty much everything checked out except for an error that mentioned a sensor error when I tried to check the oil status. It wouldn't measure. Other things were slightly ribbed rotors with 15k miles left front and 16k rear, new rear tires that didn't match the fronts that had about half the life left in them. Asking price is 27,900k. 3 owners.

Any ideas?

i would have it check out thoughly by a BMW M Tech. The Dealers usually have one or two guys that just deal with M cars. 3 onwers kind of scare me.

The third owner is the dealer network. It went from one dealer to another at auction I'm guessing. So really 2.

Don't jump to conclusions on the oil sensor. If they just reset the computer or replaced the battery it will take some time for the oil sensor to recalibrate and send a measurement. If the oil level is also low but says unable to measure, it will send a code. I thought mine was bad so I replaced it and same thing. I just waited (60 mikes!) and it finally gave me a measurement.

The first thing I would do is put that S65 dipstick kit in.

I have survived almost 6 years without a $230 oil dipstick kit plus time to remove pan plus time to weld the dipstick bung. But if you have something broken that you have to fix, maybe this is a good alternative.

I did the Binnerworld dipstick mod... All I use it for is confirming levels after an oil change. The electronic sensor is great for keeping tabs on it.
