Drive from Chicago to New York.

So this past weekend I took my 09 e92 DCT on a road trip to upstate New York from Chicago. It was about 1700 miles round trip. It was a blast in the M. Before I left I reset the mpg and when I got home I checked it and with was showing 22.4 mpg. I feel like this is not accurate. My average speed was about 80 mph but of course you have to add in those striaght aways where I might of hit well over that. Anyways I was just wondering what people's mpg on road trips usually are?

That's 2 MPG better than the EPA's highway estimate. Considering at 80 MPH+ there is a lot of drag on the car compared to 55-60 MPH, I would say that's pretty good.

Of course the only way to truly be accurate is to do the calculations manually.

Yeah 22.4 MPG going 80 MPH on average (and speeding beyond that) sounds a little bit high.

^ What he said. EPA highway is 20 MPG. Almost all cars can beat their EPA highway estimate on a long, steady cruise, but usually not at 80+ MPH. At 55 MPH you could probably get 25 MPG-ish. Drag increases exponentially with an increase in speed.

I routinely go to a lake cabin in the summer that is 260 miles round trip. If I go 55 MPH my 318ti will do about 36 MPG. If I do 75 MPH it will drop to about 31-32 MPG.
