OP, were you able to pass inspection with ESS 02 emissions file?
I have the same issue now with my ESS 550 kit /catless x-pipe

I certainly did, though both of us have OE cats from the looks of it.

All sensors passed outside of the evaporator, which wasn't ready. This was only after 50 miles of driving. I'm running stock cats like imstimpy mentioned, you may have to swap back to stock, load the file and drive ~50 miles before you'll pass. Good luck!

Thanks for good info
Anyone else with catless exhaust/ESS SC was able to pass inspection using ESS emissions file?

BrewRifle, you are right about swapping back to stock cats in order to pass with ESS emissions file. AJ from ESS just responded to my email confirming that. Their service is top notch.

This is a must if you want to have the readiness set correctly. The only other option is our high flow cat X-pipe which will also work due to the primary cat placement and design.

Are you going to have to switch back and forth every time you want to get inspected?

It looks like it, yes. Not sure its worth the hassle. Not for me anyway. To do it once is ok, but i am not doing it every year. Romans suggestion about ESS high flow x-pipe looks like a good idea, but again, selling an old x-pipe and buying a new one means spending more $$$. I have to figure out what to do.

I'm not. I run the stock x-pipe 100% of the time so there is no swapping that has to occur pipe wise. All I have to do is load the emissions file and drive around for ~50 miles, get inspected, and then reload my SC file.

And I agree about the hassle, not to mention my car would be insanely loud with the GT2 coupled to anything outside of stock x-pipe. Maybe 6 resonators wouldn't be bad? =)

Thanks for the information on this thread.

I can confirmed passing emission in VA without primary cat with ESS VT1-550 readiness file. I have mini cat installed on 2 downstream O2 sensor. Rest of the systems is stock other than primary cat delete.

Using Autel OBD2 reader I can see all emission component readiness set to ready in about 5 complete drive cycle.

02 and Evap took the longest to get ready and I think driving faster (at least 55 miles but less than 60) in the O2 readiness cycle helps.

I was worried that I need to put the primary cats on every time I do emission but apparently mini cat will suffice.

Which mini cats do you have?

When you loaded the ess emissions tune do you get any odd codes from Carly? No cel or ses lights just 27aa 27ab codes. Thought it might be due to bigger injectors with the ess kit on this emissions tune. Thoughts

yes, initially a few fault codes just after the flash. Did not remember what code, but I cleared them using the ESS software and intend to see if it comes back. It never did.

I think you should clear all fault codes before the drive cycle.

I passed MA inspection fine without having to load the emissions tune last week. Car has the 625 kit with factory xpipe. Right after it passed I went home and put on the catless xpipe.

I think the purpose of the ESS emission file is to turn the 2 post primary cat O2 senors back on. So that they will show 'ready' after completion of drive cycle if the emission level is ok. Without the emission tune, the 2 post cat O2 sensors will always be in 'not ready' state as the were deliberately turned off by the code in the regular tune.

Maybe MA is one of the states like TX that allows emission passing with up to 2 monitor readiness 'fail' or in 'not ready' state. This might explain why you dont need an emission tune to pass in MA. If that's the case I doubt you even need to swap the x-pipe at all.

In VA they only allow 1 readiness monitor in 'not ready' state to pass, so we have to load the emission tune to turn those 2 sensors back on...

On my normal tune I told them to not turn off my post cat monitoring as I will most likely be using a HFC. They stated there is a good chance I will still need to flash to the emission tune tune to pass but I did not. I checked my rediness before I went for sticker and all were ready. MA allows only 1 not ready as well.

I am curious then if you swap back to catless X-pipe, with your normal tune that ESS left the 2 post cat O2 sensors 'on', did you ever get any fault codes or check engine light?

I have been catless now for 100 miles with no light yet but I most likely will get one. I did use o2 spacers with mini cats to help fool the post cat o2s
