do our cf roofs have a yellow hue to them from factory? I just had mine re-cleared and was shocked to see how much yellow was still present.

It's the age of the resin that is still imbed inside the weaving that will maintain that yellow hue. You can't sand further down because you will start cutting into the weaving. I actually don't mind the yellow tint.

thanks for the response. I started skinning some interior trim with 1x1 weave and was hoping I could get the roof to match them's. oh well.

What can we use to remove or clean the leftover resin? Can we use acetone or alcohol?

I used the same method to remove the poorly sprayed paint, and had a shop go over it again and then re clear. Thank you for the useful info!
Looking almost brand new again

I can't compare because my roof was previously sprayed black, but now there's definitely a little yellow hue to it. I dont think you can completely get rid of it as its in the carbon weave like GORDON.M3 mentioned.

I just got done stripping my roof in preparation for clear coating it. I used acohol to clean off the residue that was left over after and then gave it a rinse with some water.

I now have this weird white stuff all on the roof, what it going on?! Will this be able to be removed before they clear it? I'm stressing out over this.

perhaps a reaction to the alcohol. Is it still there today?

This was just last night, and yeah it's still there this morning. If I take my fingernail and scratch gently some of it comes off but I can't get it off with water no matter how much I spray.

you may have dissolved some of the leftover resin with the alcohol. I'd see if it dries out through the day.

If you are still concerned what you can do it apply heaving amount of water on the roof to simulate clear coat and if you still see the some white difference then yeah I'd be a bit concerned and try to clean it up but when the heavy water coat is on and you see a beautiful clear coat resemblance then you are safe.

I just ended up wrapping the roof myself, pretty proud of myself for my first attempt. The white spots I think were a reaction to water because it wipes off using rubbing alcohol. Anyways, I can't afford a clear coat right now, hence the wrap. Some pics:

Last week I began to attempt some repair here.

Previous owner had had some chip impact and that started all. I don't know if he really knew that or it was the first thing that came in his mind.

After I was 1.5 year with the car, the damage grew up a little (could be worse if exposed to the sun, but the car was shelted 95% of the time).

The first picture shows the damage and some square addhesive that seems to be a clear bra or something, previous owner put it.

2nd pic, I removed the addhesive.

3rd pic: with the help of a ruler to lift up the rubber, I began to wetsand with 320 grit.

4th e 5th pics: after wetsanded 320, 1200, 2000 and 2500 grit.

6 to 9th pics: gave her a good wash.

10th: epoxy-resin

11th to 13th pic: first layer of epoxy-resin

14th to 16th pic: second layer of epoxy-resin

17th: 320 grit wetsanding

18th and 19th: after 320, 600, 1200, and 2000 grit wetsanding.

Now.

I feel afraid as hell.

I need to clear coat.

Any clear coat to the whole roof would do just fine just stick with a good brand.

That would help given my current unemployment situation haha! But lemme wrap my car first and practice, the roofs the easy part, things get harder on the curves, the hardest being the bumper. Now THATS gonna be a fun time...

2K Clear Glamour Clear Coat - Spray MAX 3680061

if you aren't spraying it at a body shop.

Needs to have good UV clear to match it.

One doubt guys.

Should I clear coat it the way it is (2000 grit sanded) or should I re-sand it with a 600 grit before clear coating?
