I've never driven with them, so I can't say.

If they don't, that's a terrible way to get started.

I've never done a track day so not sure I'm capable of boiling the brake fluid or melting pads, though whats the minimum amount of pad I should have front and back? Tires are PSS with under 3k on them, hoping to not trash them though if I love it they'll go away with the wheels to be replaced with a square setup!

don't set the parking brake when you come back in, and always take a cool down lap.
don't torque hot lugs.
put a sock over the power steering reservoir.
bring a roll of paper towels and maybe some gloves.
stay off the berms with those adv.1's.

Easy to forget, but make sure you get your driving position nicely setup and where it feels comfortable. Front of seat tilted all the way up to stop you sliding forward under braking, seat back upright, nice bend in your arms when you touch the top of the steering wheel. Keep your body relaxed, mind sharp. Good luck sir, you will love it!

Someone explain this to me. What happens specifically to cars like ours with springs and brake shoes?

the parking brake is just a small drum brake inside of the hat of the rear rotors. when you pull the parking brake, the pads simply spread to press against the inside of the drum. you're basically putting force on a hot brake component and as it cools, you run the risk of it distorting.

Shit, I didn't even realize he linked to TNIA. Or I would of mentioned staying away from them in my original post.

Hope he comes back with a recap. TNIA here is an epic clusterfuck of bad and dangerous driving.

Depends on the region I believe. Some have instructors. I've instructed at a TNIA.

The truck might be coming sooner than we thought. Lol
Mrs beef has no tolerance for car drama. Just finished some injector work at the dealer. Car went into limp mode on the freeway and smells like diesel fuel.

Loud exhaust on a tow vehicle is a young man’s game. It will drone and you will eventually hate it.

thanks.

so i'm sleeping in while mrs beef has plans to do a 5k with one of the dogs. i get a call at 6am saying the car is broken, smells like diesel fuel, and shes on the side of the freeway. so i get up, deliver the m3 to her so she can continue on and i wait for the tow truck. the diesel is at the dealer and i'm thinking/hoping its the same thing it was in there for so its a warranty fix... the D will be coming back home and we'll then have five cars between the two of us. i'm going to spend some time cleaning up the 335d for her next home though and its adios.

we've been wanting something bigger and this rig just fits. we already ordered a cargo cover for the dogs and searching for a ramp for the fat dog. i'll also keep an eye out for trailers.

Alright, after two pages we're gonna need to see some on track photos of the track hawk. Better photo chop us up something quick.

Are those really more reliable than a BMW X5D? I've heard many horror stories about the Grand Cherokees.

I partially agree with Chris_PDX.

I believe the problem with TNIA is at the middle level - experienced/intermediate

Anyone can sign up for a TNIA event and say they are experienced/intermediate. (or Expert fo that matter) You have a bunch of people who think they can drive better than they can, which adds a lot of danger.

I personally am at the experienced/intermediate level, I am not worthy to claim expert, but I have personally dropped down to Novice level at a TNIA event and just lined up with in the first three cars and did not have any problem with waiting for point bys until lapping the back end of the train.

I would rather wait for point bys than deal with people almost hitting me at an intermediate level where they should not be anywhere near my car unless my arm is pointing out my window. Ask me how I know.

Oh those are great ones! I read about the sock on ps cap before but forgot. Really good to know about the parking brake!

Yeah I'm going to run novice of course. As I've heard/read as well the upper two classes is where the problem shows up (drivers going above their skill level).

I spoke with some local track vets and they said the TNIA at heartland is very laid back and well organized No one mentioned it being dangerous at all and great for first time exposure. After that best to sign up for HPDE's instead!

TNIA is great to use for what it is. Cheap track time.

Pretty sure no where else can you get on track 3x 20 minute sessions for $150.
