I drove one of these yesterday. It was a six speed. I was really impressed with how stuck to the road it was and the roar of the engine. It's on my shortlist in spite of what everybody says about it being a turbo four!
It was visceral and quick. If you guys get a chance drive one just for the fun of it!

I recently drove a few of them. They're some super impressive cars and boy do they move around some corners. Nice torque as well.

I wouldn't exactly call the engine a "roar" though...more of a grunt lol

I do like the engine sound right behind my head so in the Cayman it's very focused to the driver's headrest.
I'm curious how the Boxster S sounds? Probably more exhaust with engine - only logical!
Handling was glorious in the Cayman S

The chassis and handling is absolutely sublime. The engine is simply awful compared to the screamer in the 981 generation. We have both in the family, and the only thing the 718 has going for it vs. the 981 S is the low end torque and newer infotainment. Everything else about the driving experience (as that should be paramount with a Porsche, in my opinion) is better in the 981.

A 981 GTS 6MT would probably be as much car as I could ever need, considering how nice the S already feels. The power to weight is truly impressive and the cars feel much fast than 315HP would have you believe. I won't even mention the handling as there's a reason it was constantly in contention for best driver's car by most major automotive journalism outlets.

There's rumors that the next generation of Caymans will be going back to 6, but yeah...rumors.

I do know that it's pretty positive that a detuned version of the 991 GT3's 4.0 six will be in the next GT4. My Porsche SA pretty much confirmed that.

And I cannot wait to jump into one; especially since PDK will likely be offered as well. My 981?GTS has made me a strong believer in the 911s little brother.

I kind of like the idea of a simpler 2.5 boosted with a variable vane turbo. As long as throttle is linear, and it is.
A bit more raucous and raw. Not to mention more power

When is the best GT4 coming out? I missed the boat on the last one and even used it's still $100k. They held their value well... to well!

Actually, the Boxster (with the top up) tends to be quieter than the Cayman. The Cayman's rear hatch acts like a big echo chamber. I actually found it pretty annoying by the end of the test drive, even with the exhaust in a quieter setting. I know that people will tell me not to be a pussy, and to just turn up the stereo, but the constant drone at highway speeds is quite fatiguing. I remember looking up some interior noise measurements for the car and at highway speeds its way louder than the M3. In fact, the Cayman is 10dB louder than the E92 M3 at idle, and as loud at idle as the M3 is at 50mph. Mind you this was the previous-gen H6, but I doubt that the new car is hugely quieter.

My Corvette suffers from a similar problem, but was helped with a thick carpet trunk mat. Part of the noise is also from the rear tires echoing in there.
