S54 more similar to S55 or S65?
Seen a lot of comments that state the new engine is going back to bmws roots of I6 engines like in the e46M. Personally, i laugh because i guess the two turbos are invisible. Ive always thought the e46/e9xM engines were very similar in sound, power delivery, all sorts of characteristics. I think the v8 just gave it some more oomph to an already outstanding engine. Theres more to an engine than just number of cylinders right?
So lets debate, argue, troll this one out. V8 NA more different than I6 NA? Or I6 FI more different than I6 NA? What are your thoughts? This is engine characteristics only - which has always been pretty similar in every m3. Troll comment of my post: are we all buying an A///MG4 now? |

I feel the similarity of power delivery between the s54 and s65 having had both this year. I think the feel of the s55 will not match that lineage making it more of an oddball even though its an inline 6 again.

i have been saying this for quite some time.
The E46 M and E9x M engines have more in common than the E46 to F80 do. people hear BMW is going back to I6 engines and go all crazy and say its the return of the all mighty E46. the new F80 M is a completely different style of engine than the E46. the only thing in common is they are both made by BMW and have I6. but in terms of engine characteristics they are different. |

Then i rode in an instructors e46 and had an epiphany: damn these engines are VERY close in characteristics. Hope something of this nature is kept in the new car even though the power curve is totally different. Who am i kidding its not going to be. Thats the only gripe i have. Other than that its awesome - looks, weight, tech. Plus who doesnt like new shit? Haha. But i hope to god it doesnt feel like our baby beast 135i. |

The goal is to have older shit and spank the new guys. Happens quite often. I'm guessing the sound of my new exhaust would make you forget about the new guy as well. If that doesn't work a z06 may be in order for me in a few years.
