TLC's coverage was pissing me off lol. The flyover with the RAF Lancaster, Hurricane, and Spitfire was awesome though. I would kill to see those 3 warbirds flying together.

Good point- they should've paid for it by selling tickets.

They did. It's called taxes. Just like sports teams that finance stadium build-outs using local tax money.

Taking money from people by force (taxes) is not the same as selling tickets.

Sure it is. It's the price of admission for being an English citizen. Presumably, the English monarchy (and all of its traditions and over-the-top pagentry) is something that is fundamental and the core of its people's identity. I mean, does the US gov't sell tickets for the President's inauguration? Same reason.

So, if they don't like a bunch of people who still hold the right of absolute power and have the ability to use state money for their own shits and giggles, based entirely on who they're descended from they can just move? That makes more sense than trying to change it?

Inauguration is different. The leader is elected, it's an official function of office, and they're usually relatively modest affairs- a bunch of chairs, a sound system, and a few speakers.

If I were a British taxpayer I'd be so livid over this display.

First of all, they have no power whatsoever; it's merely symbolic (although they do exercise some symbolic diplomatic power in dealing with foreign states, from time to time). And I do believe the vast majority of the Brits (I believe something like 74%) supported having the monarchy -- which is a far greater majority than the support that got our Presidents elected.

By the way, the cost of Obama's inauguration was, I believe, north of $150M ($49M from federal taxes). Hardly a "modest affair".

But the president actually benefits society and does something. (or, at least, he's supposed to, the result is debatable )

Not just sitting around and being rich.

Well, since it's generated an estimated £750 million from tourism (BBC news source) I'm not too livid about it and there has been a nice party feel today which makes a nice change from the usual doom and gloom of present.

What I am livid about is as a British taxpayer is paying idle c*^ts to stay at home and not work. Knock a kid out and you're sorted, council house and all bills paid for, more kids = more cash. THAT'S WHAT I'M LIVID ABOUT! It's about time this scum stopped getting a free ride. Who gives a shit about the Royal Family (Who bring a lot of money in from tourism I hasten to add), they cost peanuts compared to these idle parasites.

Anyway rant over and yes the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane were amazing, they flew directly over my house on the way back to RAF Coningsby, looked and sounded incredible with 6 Rolls Royce V12's so close.

I dont mind it too much. From what I know they are also generating millions of dollars from it for the country as well. Plus its a tradition in England and I respect them for continuing on with it.
Anyways, what bugs me is that I usually go to cnn.com in the mornings to get my news update. This morning I went to the homepage and was hoping to see more information on the current weather/tornado situation and families affected (I have some family out there) and all I see is massive amounts of this bs. Its sad.

BTW Catherine, or whatever her name is, is hot! William is a f*cking cornhead.

Shit no wonder my mini Cooper production status wasn't updating. Been stuck in the same phase for the last 3 days. All them Brits probably closed the plant to watch this crap.

Same shit happened to me when I ordered the M during Oktoberfest last yr.

We don't make you watch anything. As a matter of fact, I don't like watching our dumb bullshit along with many other people who live here.
