Carly Causing MIL/SES?
Last night I did some coding to the angel eyes at the gas station and had my WIFI dongle for iOS plugged in. I'm not sure If I turned the car off and on after it had been coded.
After a full tank of gas, I took off and about 5 minutes later I get some MIL/SES lights (engine icon with a "/" through it)! I believe I was decelerating when this happened. All the while, the dongle is still plugged in and is actually monitoring some parameters (I forgot which parameters). I tried turning off the car briefly and starting the car once again and all the lights/warnings disappear. So, at this point I am thinking that it could be due to the monitoring or me having forgotten to off/on the car after coding. Fast forward about 15 minutes, I am driving (cruising accel/decel) and a similar thing happens. Except this time it was an engine icon without the "/" and goes into limp mode. The first time it happened was on the freeway onramp, so I didn't get a chance to read the codes or clear them before I continued driving. Once I got home, I get three different fault codes leading to throttle actuator: 2b26 - Throttle monitor bank 2 2b57 - Check at lower top 5e19 - Engine torque is not adjustable CAN Keep in mind that this is the first time ever getting a SES and also the first day that I got Carly and completed some coding, diagnostics, and parameter monitoring. I have owned the car 1.5 years and it hasn't given a hiccup before this. Car is a 2011 with 40k miles. I have since cleared the codes and have driven 15 miles without anymore SES/MIL. I'm gonna continue to keep an eye on it. That being said, is it a possibility that my improper coding procedure or parameter monitoring could have caused those fault codes? I know most people will probably just say its time for me to replace my throttle actuator for bank 2, but I'm looking to see if others have every experienced something like this; a faulty code error that disappears once cleared. Another thing, I couldn't find a definitive instruction on. Are you supposed to do coding with Carly when A) the ignition is ON and engine off or B) Engine on? I have my first track day this Saturday and I am really hoping that this is just a case of a fault code being triggered somehow from the OBD2 connection when I was driving... Fingers crossed. |

Things to keep in mind...
I filled up with gas, could it be the gas cap? I believe both times the SES triggered I was decelerating and not at a standstill I cleared the codes and have driven 15 miles (more distance than the two occurrences of SES) and all runs and looks good so far. I guess time shall tell (hoping it doesn't interfere with my track day). |

Ignition on, engine off for coding.

Thanks dparm
Additionally, would a check engine light be prone to returning/re-displaying if it wasn't cleared? I'm not sure how the diagnostics of BMWs works. |
