I usually get one or two compliments a month at gas stations and drive-throughs. It may or may not have something to do with a throttle blip or two on the approach (ahem!)....

I was surprised the other day when I got a thumbs up at the car wash. One from the guy checking it in and vacuuming it. And the other on the dry end asking me to rev it before I left.

I was more surprised because it was a higher-end place that has a decent amount of super nice cars coming through.

She's still got it!

I have a handful in my E90.

The most proud one was when a white GT350 caught up to me on the freeway. I typically only ever drive about 5-10 over (75 in a 70) and he must have been doing 80 in the fast lane. When he pulled up alongside he slowed down and gave the thumbs up. To me that was pretty cool given it was a completely different car, and one with a lot more power than mine but at the same time the most similar type of car to ours on the road a decade later. I of course gave the thumbs up back and we went on our way.

Another less cool was a black F80 that pulled up alongside on the freeway again. I stuck my thumbs up out the window as I see it disappear from my driver side mirror and up along the left of me. It was a chick who gave me a head tilt with wave of the hand that gave me the impression of thanks but no thanks. We ended up at the same exit and she never looked again as I went right and she went left. Lol

One of my favorites was cruising in busy town traffic with a lot of lights, stop and go. One guy at the stoplight behind me and to the side says "Mannnnnnnnnnn that's a pretty B M dubyah" and then a few lights later a guy had been following me a few turns then pulls up beside me and says "hey! What kinda pipes you got under there!?" Me, having an OEM mod at the time and having no idea how to explain this at a stoplight just said, it's pretty much stock! Hahaha and he was like man that sounds good!

I think as this car ages those types of interactions happen less but when they do they are pretty genuine and enthusiastic. Most people today only care about Tesla's.

I drove to work this morning at 730 am, top down @61 degrees. Really pleasant conditions. A silver roadster, also top down, gave me the chase down with a waving thumbs up as I exited. I've also got a guy in my neighborhood in a Valencia Orange F80 M4 and another in a white e92 M3 who are frequent road buddies. But yeah, I related to those who report some extra hate toward the convertible BMW - I catch single finger salutes out of proportion to my presence on the road for sure.

Had an older gentleman in his late 60's walk up to me at Costco (fuel pumps) today asking if my car was a ZCP. He was a big fan and I was gleaming with ownership pride.

Love that a 10 year old car generates this much attention. It's my favorite for sure.

I was leaving the airport parking lot and the attendant said I don't usually like bmws but yours is really special. I didn't have the time to explain and just said thanks.

Was at an autoparts store a few weeks ago, started the car up to leave and the guy in the Toyota 4x4 in the car bay beside me said, 'what the F's in that?' replied with, 'a 4L V8', he just replied with, 'WOW' hehe

At least that guy probably knew it was a V8 in your car.

Just last week, while starting the car at work and putting the top down, a coworker came up to me while the car was going through the cold start process and said "fancy car! is that a diesel?". I told him it was V8 and he said "oh".

Anyone else have a confused person think the cold start sounds like a diesel?

Just the other week I had an older dude in a beat up truck following me for a bit and came up to the light and said he really enjoyed listening to my car.

I've been WFH since 2020 and my desk is in sight of my car and there's a crazy amount of people who slow down while driving by to take a look (car is usually parked in the street, quasi residential neighborhood). Had a Scatpack charger loop around 3 times in a row one day and literally stopped in the middle of the road

Wow! Let's see your car. Sounds like a beauty based on the attention it's getting!

Haha, thanks! There's plenty better looking examples than mine for sure. I think a large part of it is people don't expect a random M3 parked on the street.

I get multiple thumbs up weekly from people in all different types of cars. There is typically someone on the highway trying to chance me down to race (alot of Honda accords and Chargers ) Even when I'm dropping off my daughters in school I have little kids giving me a thumbs up haha. I'm sure the loud Eisenmann Race helps with the instant attention it draws even when slowly cruising. My wife even started making comments about how many guys are checking my car out, I think she's jealous :

I get a combination of thumbs up, gas station/car wash chats/compliments, and folks pulling up next to me at-least 2-3 times a month. Sometimes more. There seems to be a high concentration of car guys in my area which probably account for 90% of any attention. Quite a few highly modified e9x M's included. My car is just oem+ (lowered + 359 wheels) nothing flashy so I'm surprised I get any attention when it isn't making noise.

The non car guy attention is usually after romping on it or a downshift blip.

Had a kid (15-16 y/o I'm guessing) chase me down on his bicycle after he heard me downshift to turn into my subdivision. Asked me a bunch of questions about the car which was cool. Reminded me of myself 8-10 years ago.

Some looks are probably a more of a slow tf down look rather a nice car look though lol.

The thumbs up ain't gonna stop, the new G8X front end may be the reason why.. It's just 2nd nature to me to see a thumbs up while driving or filling in gas

Today was a great day, was at the Shell gas station for the second time this week due to our small gas tank and Heavy drinker of a Car!!! To my surprise a Jeep Wrangler pulls up with 3 very attractive ladies " Shhhh don't tell my wife"....the drivers hops out and says " That's a SEXY M!!!" and I scream back " So are All of you ladies!!" (screaming in my head of course) but in reality...I simply said "Thank you"....while blushing!!! lol......I count that as a thumbs up in my book!!

I never thought my M3 would ever gauge any type of attention, maybe to us enthusiasts, but I never thought I would receive thumbs ups.. compliments.. etc, oh how wrong I was!

My 2011 E90 M3 has regularly attracted positive attention from many, since the moment I brought her home. The best encounter I had was walking out to my car from work, and seeing a note on my windshield that said something along the lines of 'I love your m3'.

Most of my 'attention' does come from my 3rd to 2nd downshift

When driving the m3 I get a thumbs up about once every 2 or 3 months. In the r8 I get several thumbs up every single time I take it out. It's actually nicer driving a lower key vehicle like the M sometimes...too much attention can get tiring when you just want to have a relaxing cruise.

While waiting for the traffic lights at the crossroads, I saw people in the car behind all giving thumbs up. Watching her licking her thumbs and continuing to shake her thumbs, I knew she was wiping the windshield.
