I completely agree and I would extend that thought further to say that I think almost all of our DCT's are likely spewing small amounts of fluid each time we track them, which could very well contribute and be the main cause of the issues folks have noted.

I have been chasing the fluid spew/leak issue with my DCT for some time. Read through this thread for example, LINK, my posts start on page 7. I tried and am still trying the SSP Viton gaskets though I think a Slonik lower pan AND side pan (they are working on this) will be the ultimate and complete solution. In the meantime I highly suspect that the Slonik lower pan and an occasional top off will solve your issues.

Another data point, I have been driving my car at COTA with the full DCT tune in S6 (90ms shifts) and haven't had a single hiccup yet. Now that I've said that ...

I am still running street tires though, so perhaps I will see some issues once I switch to slicks, tbd.

dogbone curious if you are planning to go Slonik also?
Oh gosh. A side pan as well? Just when I thought I've found my solution to the root cause by blowing my wallet, there's another one!

It's weird how you haven't had DCT issues yet. I wasn't driving incredibly fast - was my 3rd or 4th time at T-Hill West and my best lap time was 1:32.xx in the first few laps of the day due to traffic and my later technical problems. Didn't really push it in later sessions and cut some short. At Laguna, best so far was a 1:48.70, so also not a super fast driver. I'm also not running slicks, just MPSS that I'm swapping out for RS4 due to excessive shoulder wear.

Perhaps I had already been leaking some DCT fluid. This clunking has been going on for several track days now, and maybe enough leaked out that the S-turns are trigger limp mode now.

are you having DCT problems at laguna? i'm thinking you have another issue other than exceeding cooling limits.
i'm running consistent 1:44's with a few 1:43's mixed in, and i'm going at it for the full 20 minute sessions- and no complaints from the DCT.

if you have never had the dct felt cover off, its time to take it off and have a look. you may have been seeping a little bit of fluid over a long period of time. also, double check your main heat exchanger in the passenger side inlet... make sure a bunch of rubber/grass/leaves/etc., isn't making it less efficient.
seems like you're consistently having problems, which isn't normal in this cooler weather on street tires.

Side note: Dude we've got to go to the same track day again, if you'll slow down a bit, let me learn your lines!!

I agree with it being some sort of leaking or fluid issue rather than heat!

Didn't have problems at Laguna Seca. I did get some clunking maybe at the last 5-10 minutes of some sessions. Thunderhill West is the only one where I got the error codes and limp mode! I was getting some problems shifting, where the DCT would take a long time and seem to have trouble engaging the next gear. Then the next session it went limp mode. I know my DCT pan was replaced just before I bought my car a year ago, due to leaks.

Other tracks:
Thunderhill East 2 weeks ago was no problem, only got a bit of clunky shifting. Sonoma no problem but that was back in November, so maybe more has leaked out since then - lines up with the leaking theory even though Sonoma is a tighter track

i was just up there broski, where were you?

i haven't been to thunderhill yet, so i don't have any comparative experiences to share. what about the day we were both at sonoma? any DCT problems?
i had my DCT seals (two, i believe) replaced under warranty a few years back at around 30k. just hit 60k on the way back... no problems since. i have had the felt cover off twice since then and although it has had residue, it wasn't accumulating, so i left it alone.

No issues that day at Sonoma!

Weird stuff, I'm thinking this overkill approach to the DCT pan solves my problems along with a flush. Give me a few weeks to get the car sorted out.. will PM you to figure out next time we can hang!

the ducting tube ends just before the front of the side felt triangle... so you'll basically have to drill a hole through the front and back of the side felt piece. all the felt should bolt up like oem.
why can't you get the side felt pieces on?

This is how I would route the ducting... the gt4 should allow for using the front felt pieces.

How many events you have on those Achilles? I'm curious how they hold up compared to DHs and if they're cheaper than scrubs for how long they last

Thanks, very helpful. I’ll take another look this week at bolting the felt triangles when I’m more awake, I must have just been missing something.

You might have to route the ducting a little more in board, but you get the idea...

A friend has told me that Achilles are much closer in grip to Nitto NT01 over Pirelli DH.

Just realized how that picture is uhh.. Half.. nevermind!

On a more serious note.
I may be considering selling my oem insulation pieces if anybody wants it. I just need to evaluate that the condition of the pieces are good enough to recycle and not just scrap.

Edit: added photos
Cannot wait to clean these...
