Just placed my order for the EU switch from ECS, just because I'm OCD like that

Well done! I almost bought the switch, but it's way more rewarding to have it "hidden."

I released BOTH the top and bottom buttons and the "force headlights on" when the switch is on "Auto" works like a charm - let's call it a "twofer"!

Super easy. Hardest part was prying the clips on the black button back to release the button... If you have them, good plastic tire irons work in place of a trim pulling tool. Worked awesome...

Excellent post. Done in 15 min. Thank you. This will help in Florida given the sudden blinding pouring occasional rain. Thanks buddy.

Just did this tonight. Both buttons. Since I have an '08, I had to perform the Lego mod. However, in my case, it was the dowel rod and Duplo mod

Name: image.jpg
Views: 1742
Size: 98.7 KB

This creation, combined with one or two felt pads was sufficient to bridge the gap between the buttons at front and the circuit board at the back.

Thanks, OP, and all who contributed to the thread!

Updates:

Rear fogs work just fine. However, I'm getting no dash lights indicating such on my very early-model 2008 launch E90. Also, unless I gummed up the top, instant-on headlight button (certainly a possibility), I'm not getting this functionality--lights on auto, press button: nothin'. I'll update later if things change and I'm able to get this button to work as intended.

OK, so maybe I was smoking something the other night. Turns out, the rear fog dash light is working for me. I think I may have not seen it the previous night. Then, when I was checking it during the next day, the headlights weren't on. Therefore, it makes sense that the rear fogs wouldn't come on then

Did this mod the other day. I must say those rear fogs are bright! All in all a good, cheap mod that does not take all to long (about 30min). Thanks OP!!

Awesome!

Anyone with a 2008 unable to to get the top button working to instantly turn on the headlights when in (A)uto mode? I'm wondering if I didn't get things put together right there or whether it's possible with an '08?

THANK YOU.

My 09 E90 didn't have the extension either and I couldn't find a good spacer but the bic pen cap was the perfect solution - perfect fit in the button, easy to cut down to size (I cut it a few mm past where the end of the clip is molded into the cap), and rigid. I wrapped the cap in 2 layers of electrical tape so there was a snug fit into the button and so there wasn't plastic on plastic rattling. I hot glued the bic cap to a rigid plastic sheet cut down to make a "T" to hit both buttons and test fitted it so the detent of the rubber buttons on the circuit board was tight against the button (so the button does not sag).

Done in less than 15 minutes and works perfectly. Why don't we get these functions in the states?

OK I finally found the time to retrace my steps and the clue is that both contacts need to be pressed simultaneously. Since I had to do a makeshift "lego mod" (mine is an '08)
it was tilted slightly when depressing the switch.

Mod now works ! awesome.

Worked like a champ on my 2010 with a 12/17/2009 build date (tab removal; no legos or fuse needed).

Do you have to purchase the whole ECS Euro Headlight Switch assembly just to get the rear fogs button? I assume even if you can find the individual button, it will not light up without the true Euro Headlight Switch. If you do, can you swap back in a blank from the stock assembly instead of the front fog button to accurately reflect the M3 lighting configurations after performing this mod (since we don't have front fogs)? Thanks in advance.

I bought the Euro switch from ECS, it does not have the front fog switch. I have included a link to the proper switch with chrome trim, for cars with rain sensor but no front fogs.. It is an easy swap, took 5 minutes. Just be careful popping off the dash trim pieces so you don't scratch them... More expensive route than the DIY but I like the properly labeled button on the Euro switch.

Just saw that! Thanks. I had clicked on a link in this thread and it directed me to this piece:

Then I saw they offered it as you described which satisfies my OCD, ha.

Thanks to this DIY, I finally did this mod…but opted to purchase the OEM Euro Headlight Switch instead. Very happy with the outcome! Thanks OP for creating this thread!

Does anyone know if we have the wiring for the front fog like the non-M e90's and 92's???
Just wondering if i can use the top switch if it's already wired.

There are no front fog lights on the M3, so no there is no wiring.
