ACM Mod Done!! Holy cow 13 hrs/labor?!?!

I picked up my car from the shop today. The ACM Mod sounds amazing. Couldn’t be happier with the exhaust.

The bad part is... the bill was for 13 hours of labor. This is partly my fault, I should have spoken about the scope of work that was required prior to letting them do it. But dear god, I never expected to shell out so much. The hourly rate was $80. I expected <$600 given other peoples’ experiences and posts.

In total they:
Did the ACM Mod + opened it on both sides to ensure the full circumference of the pipe was closed.
Swapped the e90 exhaust tips for my e92 tips
Swapped/installed my stock exhaust for my secondary one they did the ACM Mod on.

Total bill for parts and labor $1,200. Damn this thing sound great though...

Had I known that it would cost as much as it did... that’s what I would have done.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I’m never the person to follow up after I paid but I felt compelled to do so here.

I emailed them and acknowledged they are a top notch shop but the effort required seemed extremely excessive. I asked them to confirm that there wasn’t an error and the labor charge was correct. I mentioned others’ experiences and expectations regarding costs/labors.

It’s their prerogative to cash the $1,200 check I wrote, and they’d never hear from me again but I hope they reconsider.

Also, yes - I’m in NC!

Live and learn. I think you are handling it well with how you wrote back to them. They should justify and you now can refer to the comments here for what others have paid. If they can't price match, at least come back to something resembling reality.

uhhhh... did they take it home and sleep with it? or do they just have not a single idea of what they are doing.... I've never welded before and I could have done it and rented all the necessary tools for less. lol

Holy shit, did they at least give you some KY before bending you over? I don't know what's worse: the bill or the fact you agreed to pay it with a straight face.

To remove mod and reinstall the muffler I get 300 at my shop which I feel is on the bottom end of the spectrum. I wouldn’t touch the job for $150 and can’t imagine a quality job being done by a competent shop for that, so don’t feel like that is normal. I regularly see $400-600 charged for the job but more than that means they haven’t done one before and got you to pay for their learning curve.
