Active Blind Spot Detection
The new 3 Series has Active Blind Spot Detection. Is there any way to add this feature or something like it to a E93 with park distance control?

No. They are separate systems that use completely different cameras.

If you need blind spot detection, you have your mirrors all wrong.

Not true at all My DD has it and its Great, Maybe the Euro versions of our side mirrors help, but what BSD does is awesome and cant be replaced, our cars should 100% have BSD standard at least on 2011 up.

Although its comforting to have, you wouldn't and shouldn't solely rely on that to switch lanes. I don't see the point of retro-ing it into the older cars.

But I hate being beside or behind those things -- they trip the radar detector!

Actually, I already decided that when I win the PowerBall Lottery (sole and only winner), that I don't want a chauffeur - instead, I will hire two other sports-car drivers to run interference for me: clearing lanes ahead, blocking other vehicles, and generally making my drive smooth! - V .

I never understood the whole blind spot discussion. By the time a car is off my side mirrors, it is either in my peripheral vision or in the center mirror. All you need is to adjust the mirrors properly. |

Agreed especialy if your paying attention while you drive. You check your rear mirror often enough no one is going to sneak up on you and if your passing someone you already know they are there?

That's your opinion. That's like saying PDC is a must have, which that's not true. More complications and electronics that I do not want, so I'm glad it's not standard. If you adjust all 3 mirrors properly, there should not be a blindspot.

The way I set my mirrors. For the driver side, put your head where the door panel is, so your forehead is almost to the glass (and adjust it). Then for passenger side, put your head to middle of the car (so kind of above iDrive controller), adjust. When you have your head in those 2 positions, adjust the mirrors so that your car is barely in the mirror, so that when you sit back in your regular driving position, the mirrors are point outwards like in Post 26

For anyone who's willng to try it, all you have to do to see the side of your car is move your head 2-3 inches to each side. It'll still be there!! You don't need to see it everytime you look back. There is a TINY gap that can occur if a car is moving up to slowly pass you between when you look in your side mirror and then to your center rear view mirror. It's happened a couple times to me where I missed the car, but now I just check twice before changing laves- it only takes an extra 3-5 seconds. .
