Excessive cam gears noise
Hi folks!
Got a quick question. I know that cam gears make that whiny noise. It was very subtle when I first got the car. Now at 6000km the noise is much more pronounced to the point that this is the only thing I can hear driving in first few gears at lower RPM's. At highway speeds no issue. I am wondering whether it's normal for this noise to get louder over time (break-in). Are there any factors affecting it, such as outside temperature, etc? |

Hard to tell from your description. Check the power steering fluid level. I had a loud, roaring noise when the car was cold that was due to the power steering fluid level.

Not sure if this is your case but when I first got my car at 35k I noticed that it whined quite a bit more than my e46M. From what I gather, it's normal.

Do a search on power steering fluids and see if others' description sound like yours. That's how I figured it out for me. Every time I took it to the dealership the sound was gone. It was probably because the fluid was warmed up and circulated. Just a thought, it might be something else.

The cam gears do make some noise. I've had a few people ask me if the car is supercharged due to the cam gear whine.
