Rod Bearings replaced @ MRF - 2011 w/ 37k miles

I purchased my car from the original owner this past August with 35k miles.

He took impeccable care of the car. He thought I could wait to do the rod bearing job for a long time, because he always properly warmed up the car.

I knew I wanted to get the job done ASAP for peace of mind.

Here are the OE bearings:
Cylinder 7 Top had the most wear, Malek said it could have gone any time.

I am so happy and lucky to live an hour away from Malek, another stellar review for him/ his shop. He also put in new spark plugs and new engine mounts. After the alignment the car needed too, it is driving so sweet!

That’s about how mine looked at the same mileage in September. Told you he’d hook you up .

Cheers OP. Did my 2011 at 37k as well, looks quite similar from the photo (mine at page 34 in the link Buddalun provided). Thought mine where in fair shape, good for another bunch of miles but what do I know. Malek obviously know what he's talking about, but that they where about to go? Did he mean bearing close to spin?

Believe Malek usually use VAC and ARP, that what you went with as well?

Thx

Edit: taking a closer look that no 7 does look worn. Would be interesting should you have a close up picture as well.

Ps. Almost forgott - congrats and welcome!

I got mine done in October 2018 with about 41k. I've only done like 800 miles on it since but so far so good.

Those are not close to giving up the ghost. There is some wear and I am aware that they are the later Al. bearings, but those really aren't that bad in the scheme of things.

36k on those things... and you think they look great?

i'm no expert on rod bearings, but i theorize part of the problem comes from the bearings becoming smooth and no longer getting proper lubrication. i observed tiny oil ridges on my bearings (2011.5 with the tin/aluminum bearings). i suspect these tiny ridges carry oil. once these things get polished to the point of not carrying oil and making actual contact, they can only go so long before its done.

I don’t have the expertise to know whether any of these were about to fail so I’ll trust Malek. He has a good reputation by all accounts I have read and has probably changed as many as any single mechanic around. I think 36k mile rod bearings should look new. On some cars, 200k mile rod bearings look new.

Tell that to hundreds of people who’s got their engine seized up by rod bearings.
