2013 M3 Coupe Supercharged vs 2015 M3/M4.

I have a 2015 M4 on order at my local dealer, going into production tomorrow. It should be here at the end of May/First of June.

Now, coming from 2 E92 M3s, One that was completely done up with 650wrhp 6MT (2008-2013) to my current 2013 M3 with only 575 wrhp (dct) , with kw suspension 3 way adjustable suspension, brembo bbk, race pads, gintani stage 2 supercharger system, mode carbon front, apr front splitter and rear wing.

The car is literally perfect, a blast to drive, track star, air strip beast, street car, it seriously is my favorite. Now the question is.. let it go and grab the new body?

I've been loosing sleep over it! What would you guys do?

I would wait it out, I haven't had much luck with first production BMWs and once the LCI comes out you will end up making another switch from the Pre-lci. I say enjoy the E9x a bit more until we have more info and actually get to drive the M4.

I wouldn't go the M4 route. Too little improvement to begin with let alone comparing to an E92 that been heavily modded.

I think you answered your own questions in your initial post, just as others have pointed out - The car is literally perfect, a blast to drive, track star, air strip beast, street car, it seriously is my favorite.

I don't see any reason to jump on the new M3/4 bandwagon when your current M3 is going to slap the crap out of it anyways.

I have a deposit down on the first m4 my dealer gets, i can give it up and get my deposit back.

Other then power, that is the only thing stopping me from the M4. I dont know how much power I can squeeze with Downpipes, Tuning... I will probably have to do upgraded turbos to keep me happy.

Wait it out an enjoy your e92. You obviously like to mod, and the new M4 won't have many options being so new, and possibly(more likely probably) buggy. Being first with newest toys also means the first to run into problems without kindred support :P

For what you like to do with your car Josh, I would get the new M4 with carbon ceramic brakes.

We already know we are down on power once our cars heat up at the track. In optimal conditions when the car is cool we are 570 wheel, but I will bet you if we dyno'd at Big Willow right after doing 10 laps at 2,300 ft elevation we would be somewhere in the mid 400s no joke.

The new M4 on the other hand will be a 380-390 RWHP car stock, but won't loose much power at the track as compared our S/C cars. Maybe with what Terry is doing (tune, downpipes, meth injection) they could see 450 wheel which will bring you up to where your current s/c M3 is once heatsoaked.

Plus with less weight I would think you could ultimately get a better time (maybe even sub-1:30) with the new M4 once set up right with tires, suspension, aero, etc. Just gonna take $20 grand at least plus you will have to wait for development. Just be prepared to go slower initially before you get modded up to go faster.

+1 You are making a mistake getting the M5.

I am 100% sold on the M4 after seeing/hearing it all weekend at COTA.

I would stick with your supercharged e92. The new m4 won't have supporting mods for sometime, no one knows how it will respond to dp's, exhaust, and a tune.

I came from a fbo n54 335, almost bought vtt stg 2 turbo's for it but decided to bail because i was tired of the issues associated with a turbo car. Always worrying about boost leaks, logging, etc.... it gets annoying imo.

People think it will be like the n54/n55 where you start out with 8psi, add dp's, exhaust, IC, tune and run 16-19psi and a nice power bump. The new m4 comes with 18psi from the factory...who knows how it will respond to mods? I was researching it for a bit and saw some threads about the turbo's on the s55. Its early yet, but it seems the turbo's aren't much larger than the n54 from what I hear, I don't know how much boost they will take. I saw some people thought they were in-between a stock n54 turbo and a RB/vtt stg 2 type upgrade.

I am also skeptical a tuned s55 with fbo's wont' have heatsoak issues. Its one thing running stock boost, what about with a tune?

Don't get me wrong, I think the m4 will be a great platform and will be very fast, but significantly faster than a Gintani stg 2 sc s65??? hmmm i dunno

Its fun being first, but I like to let others experiment before I jump in.

The s65 is amazing, i love the never-ending pull of the high redline, sound, no turbo lag.... its a keeper

I watched the M4 MotoGP safety car run two constant 30 min session at Circuit of the Americas this weekend. It didn't skip a beat. Good to see as I was a skeptic as well. Now a tuned S55, that is yet to be seen.

BMW has done a lot to keep the s55 from heat soaking and to be able to be tracked like the m3/m4 is meant to... but yes, we will see what happens when you raise the boost.

AT LEAST wait until we see where the M4 mods are going. your car is heavily modded. its very fast. last thing you want is to be stuck with a slower car, because the market is not there yet for a while. Or the M4 does not do well with mods.

another thing. a S/C S65 is a badass car man. the sound and feel are way better than any BMW I6 engine.

If you you want a new car. get a c7 Z06, then maybe it makes sense

Im waiting a year or 2 before I order the new one. Let them work out all the problems, plus it seems everytime I get a car in the first year. I see something different, I should of order with the car. I finally feel complete with this M3.

I agree.. But maybe when we were all much younger. The older you get, the less this matters.

IMO, there is no chance an F82 will hold a candle to a modified E92, considering the architecture is almost identical. On a warm track day, you should know better than almost anyone, the turbo car is going to soak up in heat despite how many coolers they have strapped it with and power will become erratic. The F10 M5 and F12/F13 M6 direly suffer from this, especially when caught up in the draft of another vehicle at the track. The new turbo M cars are very sensitive to aerodynamic flow being perfect at the front end for it's cooling, once disrupted, they limp.

Lastly, the Volumetric efficiency of the S65 is extremely high. Strapped with a charger it pulls like a jet, and not many cars out there can really beat it, unless we are talking about some very expensive super cars or even modified super cars. The twin turbo's on the S55 are extremely small, based on initial info that we have, they don't look much larger than the N54 turbo's. I don't see boost being able to risen much higher than it currently is before hitting choke on the turbo's map.

I think you kind of answered your own questions here....

If it were me, I would pay a bit more and get a 991 Carrera S with cup kit and power kit or a 991 GT3 if the creature comforts of the Carrera S aren't important to you. If you want to stay BMW, wait to see what the M2 has to offer. That is where I am placing my bets.
