Thats why when these free oil changes are up i'm switching to amsoil 10w40 full sythetic as i can get it for a good price and its just as good as if not better than mobil 1 or castrol. I use amsoil for my bike and it works great.
It's a stretch to say Amsoil 10w-40 is equal to Castrol 10W-60 for this particular engine. BMW has been very persnickity about the oil since the E46 M3. I trust the engineers on this one. Seems kind of shortsigted to save less than $100/year to risk you $25k engine.

You could use Lubromoly 10W-60. That's what RMP uses I think

I pulled in to Autohaus last week and I was denied by the "parts girl", she said I would have to buy the oil, I told her I have never had to buy the oil to top of my old 330, she said because the M3 uses more expensive oil (10-60) that she wouldn't be able to give one of the techs a liter of oil to top me off. I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT. I didn't know what to say...I walked out of there...and I headed over to Maranello a couple days later and without a question the guy filled me up with a liter of oil. I later called Autohaus Service Manager, and he told me that they are unable to fill up M cars because of the special oil it requires, but he would have no problem filling up a regular 3 series.

A part of me understands, a liter of this oil is $19, so if everyday just 1 guy comes in to top of the oil in their M3. It costs them $100 bucks a week, and realistically they probably have a lot more then 1 guy a day. But still...this is the ONLY dealership that has ever denied to top of me off.

I've never liked Autohaus, and now I HATE them!

DON'T GO TO AUTOHAUS!!!!!!!!!

The states have it the best(brakes under maintenance, wiper blades etc..) Canada has it pretty shitty but I must admit the UK gets fucked the worst!

IN canada you can get the same package as the states for an additional $2,000!

Its called service inclusive, includes all wear and tear items for 5years/96,000KM which includes brakes, clutch, wiper blades etc,
This sounds like a killer deal to me and I bought it for my M3, it goes beyond the warranty period and stays with the car, regardless of ownership changes.
Meaning if I sell the car earlier, the car has a comprehensive maintenance plan along with it, a win win situation in terms of resales too!

Not many people know about it, but I don't think its $2000.
Im pretty sure I paid $1000 for it. I have to double check as Im curious myself now.

But either way, its worth it because the front brakes would run you $3500 bucks from BMW.

That's a little better coverage than the free US one, which is 4 yrs./50k mi. Sounds like a good investment for Canadians, unless you plan on modding with BBK, for instance.

So is it basically everything except tires? I should have bought it!

Yes sir! everything except tires and gas

You can buy it as long as you are below the 1year/24000KM mark from your original in-service date.

If you just bought your new m3, I am sure you can probably get it.

Slammed, If you got the 3yr/72KM plan, $1000 sounds about right.

I got the 5yr/96KM plan and got charged the regular 3 series price for $2050+tax, I think the plan was newly introduced at the time I got it in 2008, they didnt add the $100 M Series surcharge, oh well.. more free gas for me

Yes and if you buy a used M3 from BMW dealer, you can get this same service inclusive package extended to 6yrs/160,000KM + the regular certified series warranty!

So there is a benefit for owners who purchase their used Certified Series M3 from BMW or THOSE original owners who have this coverage put on there vehicles already (i.e. the 5yrs/96,000KM I got for my M3), as in the end its that peace of mind without having to worry about any maintenance expenses

And Greg yes if you are getting a BBK, its not worth it, because the probablility of going through a clutch is lower as oppose to brakes in 5-6 years of driving!

Seemed a little high, but this guy is serious and knows what he is talking about, he is the shop foreman afterall.
i wouldn't own a bmw if that is the case. too much hassle. my e46 m burned half quart of oil in 15k miles

Just a note...Maranello used to top up for free, but now they charge $20 for the liter if you did not buy the vehicle from them. I have about 12,000km and have had to top up twice...approximately every 5,000km (2,000km was the break in service).
Oh...and they have a Yellow SE in the showroom

Went in for a top up at BMW Toronto today and was informed this would be the last freebie. New dealership policy is to charge for top up oil going forward. Anyone else experience this?
